hasaknightjob: Steven looking at a goldfish (Steven with fish)
[personal profile] hasaknightjob
When Steven got to work that morning the moths in the bug exhibit were restless. Almost as though they knew that tomorrow there'd be an event of some sort that related to creates that dealt with a much much larger version of their tiny little moth selves.

But that was silly, really. Steven instead watched to be sure that it didn't look like any of the moths were injured. Finding that none were, he dimmed the lights near their exhibit in case the brightness was what was bothering them.

With that he went back to the Welcome Desk to help any visitors. He'd make sure to check on the moths during the day just to be on the safe side.

There was a salesman on the phone trying to convince Adrian to buy his company's stock of bath products. The first thing Adrian had done was ask him where he sourced his ingredients, and then when he couldn't answer, asked what those ingredients were. The guy had gotten maybe a third of the way through the list when Adrian interrupted. "Thank you for the offer, but we're not interested."

That really should have been the end of it, but the guy had swapped tactics. Adrian tried to get off the phone several more times before finally saying, "The store owner is in on Tuesdays. You'll have to call and give your spiel to her," and then hung up.

Having this guy talk to Pam was probably a little cruel, but he was the one who wouldn't let Adrian go otherwise. And Pam couldn't murder him over the phone. So, really, he felt confident in his decision.

Two things were happening that day, which, for someone who spent his life in a sort of rote existence blissfully free of a good deal of events or happenings, was a lot for Boc. First of all, apparently, one of his employees had gone and signed him up for a class again, although at least this time, he was assured that it was not a mistake in thinking it was a class about sewing. It was very clearly a class about food, because apparently, they were concerned that his diet of scavenged plants and cinnamon rolls was not good for him. But that was his diet, mostly, back in the Lands Between! And that diet didn't even include cinnamon rolls! He promised, though, he'd at least check it out, with the caveat that he'd refused to keep showing up if it was too overwhelming for him.

So he was pretty much not expecting to keep up with it.

The second thing that was happening was that he had a new employee all of a sudden. Hopefully one who wouldn't randomly sign him up for things like the others! But the young woman had come into the class all in a flurry yesterday after an event in the park, upset and nearly inconsolable about one of those hideous park garments, and, quite frankly, Boc could not blame her. He still wasn't quite sure how they'd gotten around to it from that point, but the young woman...Luma, she said her name was...had a passion for fashion and was new to the island, and the concept of having a job was just so novel and intriguing to her that she decided she simply must work here. And although it was all said very pleasantly and kindly, there was something a bit...predatory abut her that made Boc feel particularly nervous and skittish, but she told him he had nothing to worry about, she was like him, actually, and she'd shown him how she could change into a beast, probably thinking that would make him feel better, but actually, it made him feel much, much worse.

But of course he'd given her the job. He would have been far too nervous to have said no! Even if she wasn't some sort of tiny magic half-wolf.

So she'd be coming by to learn about the job, he supposed, after her own class, and he was trying his best not to be nervous, which meant a lot of folding and organizing about the shop that morning.

Thor wasn't sulking. That was beneath a god of his standing.

He just thought the paintball game had been rigged, that was all.

Don thought he and Steve had gone for mutually assured destruction and it was their own fault. Thor was ignoring Don as unhelpful, as well as whatever Tiny was still doing with the maraschino cherries and toothpicks over there.

After having a fair bit of energy the last couple of weeks, Liz was feeling rather tired when she came downstairs that morning. She had considered working from upstairs but thought she would be fine for a few hours as she tried to get as far ahead with her work as she could. She was being more careful and taking it as slow as she could while she worked through the tasks that she wanted to accomplish, so she didn’t tire too much.
