Gunn was on patrol again.

"Yo? Vampires? Any of you guys about?"

Though it was a bit different this time around.

"I'm O positive! Got plenty here if you're hungry!"

Yeah. Very different.

Claudia was on the computer, today, clicking through the Portalocity website and checking her finances.

Mrs. Frederic totally didn't have to know if she popped back to Minneapolis for a weekend, right? She'd be extra careful not to blow anything up and everything.

Book Haven was open.

Claudia had gone looking for books on viking culture and ended up with a freaking doorstop of Icelandic sagas.

So far, she'd found nothing about inventing one's own peg-leg.

Book Haven was open.

Geoffrey had been stewing.

While the actual play scripts had come in last week, he'd been so unhappy with what had happened (and the unfortunate circumstance that meant he couldn't undo what'd happened without feeling mildly ill to his stomach at the thought of wasting a production) that he hadn't been able to even write on the board for casting.

A musical.

They'd sent him... a musical.

Not a bad musical, not by any means, but a musical all the same. A musical. All right, a dramatic musical, and a musical based on the Bard's work, but...

Oh God, he was going to have to coach someone through 'I Feel Pretty' and suddenly lunch was so much less interesting. But this was what he had and he wasn't about to spit in the face of what he had, not when it was, well, all he had. So the sign went up.

Another Monday, another day of Claudia in the book store. Today, she flipped through an absolutely terrible old book on various "fearsome critters of the lumber-woods". Oh, it'd probably been thought excellent in its time, but now? Wretched.

The illustrations were kind of fun, though.

All told, Claudia was in a pretty good mood at the store today, singing 80s pop songs under her breath and she skimmed the shelves and made sure everything was in place.

You know, when she wasn't in class, blowing up papayas with faces using microwave technology.

Man, she loved science.

As a nine year old, Claudia wasn't much known for sleeping. Which would be why she was kinda sorta napping behind the counter, today.

Hey, it beat out mooning over spending a weekend thinking Joshua was alive and well somewhere.

Claudia had been in Fandom for almost an entire semester now, and yet she still wasn't much further along on reproducing her brother's last experiment.

Which would be why she had a line of test tubes on the table at the book store, today. Look, she promised not to blow up anything irreplaceable, okay? She'd totally taken the flammability of books into account.

Claudia had been paying just enough attention to not be sure if she was glad she didn't have any kids show up this weekend to blow up stuff she hadn't deemed blow-up-able (what, if it were her kid, it'd totally be blowing stuff up), or if she was sad because this might mean she was going to die pathetic and lonely.

So, you know, fun times.

Either way, she had all the kids books she could locate front and center and was flipping through an old copy of that one about the dog with the clock in its side.

By now, Claudia had pretty much exhausted the resources at Book Haven in regards to Rheticus or the Compass, and she wasn't much closer to figuring out how to fix whatever Joshua had done wrong, and as much fun as reading old school sci-fi was, she wasn't much in the mood for a laugh of that sort, today.

Which would be why she was trying to, uh, improve the coffee dispenser. And the teapot.

Shut up, they'd be totally better if she hooked them up together using spare parts she found around the store.

Claudia came in, checked things over, made sure the beverages were all set up, opened the store, and sat down to spin around in her chair for awhile.

Look, sometimes a teenager just had to act like an idiot, okay?

Claudia showed up to work on time no, really, ignore the late post for it, made sure the beverages were all available for customers, then sat down with a quantum physics textbook for some light reading.

Yeah.

Claudia was late into work today, having woken up convinced that today was Saturday and that she'd had a very vivid dream about being some guy named Zane.

Look, it made sense her head, okay? More than actually turning into some guy named Zane for two days.

She didn't notice her mistake until she logged onto her computer and discovered notes a few helpful hints about the mechanics of human teleportation on her notes file and a page displaying fairly hefty sum of money in a numbered bank account.

Zane, apparently, had a bit of a Robin Hoodish hobby on the side.

She had her computer at work with her today, trying to work out whether she wanted to donate that money, keep it, or give it back, somehow.

It was a little weird being back at work after a week chilling in a tropical paradise, but Claudia was nothing if not flexible.

Well, in the whole "job v. vacation" thing, anyway.

So she was looking up books on sea lions, today. That didn't mean anything!

Claudia had a book of Rheticus open next to her as she tapped away on her laptop, doing a bit of fact checking.

Yes, things were progressing rather nicely. She was starting to narrow down exactly what she'd need to reproduce Joshua's experiment.

Eeeeeeeexcellent.

Claudia had finally gotten her hands on an original Rheticus, and as such, had her nose buried deep in a book.

Claudia was giving Kurt's image inducer a test run, which meant that, at the moment, it looked like Kurt was sitting about three feet away from her, mimicking her every movement.

This was totally progress.

During the night, Fandom had been covered in a blanket of fresh snow that was just thick enough to turn everything crisp and white. With cream-colored decorations and twinkling lights, the Student Council had aimed for a winter wonderland kind of theme, and the snow simply added to the effect. Thankfully, the day was turning out to be warmer, so those who were going to be outside all day wouldn't freeze. Once the finishing touches were done, the carnival was open for business.

Claudia was totally at work today, despite still being pretty damn sore from Saturday's excitement.

Speaking of which, she was using her time today to work on inventing a Tesla a long range taser.

Look, it just sounded like it'd be useful, okay?

So last week had been all about getting the general feel of the store. This week was all about the specifics. Which was to say, looking at the actual books in the store.

Claudia stood at one end of the store and just looked at them all for a long moment before diving in. Hey, she might be a mad scientist with a yen for electronics and an up-and-coming career in hacking secret organizations, but she damn well appreciated the written word.

For one thing, no one had yet scanned Rheticus' works and put them up online. . . .

It was Claudia's first day of employment. Ever. She'd say first day of work, but, really, she'd done plenty of work over the years, especially as Joshua's assistant in his lab. This was just the first time she was getting paid to do stuff.

It was very exciting, and Claudia showed up nice and early to get the lay of the store and figure out what was what.

Mmmmm, books.
