Radio tryouts were starting, and Lacey and her cranky unpleasant cohost (aww, but she actually really enjoyed their banter, because she was dumb like that) were up tonight.

Cue flailage on Lacey's part, and then the busboy dumped a manuscript in front of her and asked her to read what he hoped was going to be his revolutionary reimagining of the Great American Novel.

Lacey got about five pages in, and . . .

"What the heck is a pandguinter bear?"

Today's Special
Artichoke Chicken
Mandarin Chicken Salad
Minestrone

Now Hiring!

Luke's is open, Lacey is confused, what else is new?

Eliza was pleased enough with the fact that she no longer had to advertise a Wednesday opening that she didn't actually mind the weekly decoration of The Dratted Sign with letter-obscuring flowers.

That didn't mean she hadn't demanded a replacement, mind you. She just wasn't yet to the point of threatening bodily harm in the reminder letter she'd shipped off this morning.

The sign in the window read:

Covent Garden Flowers

Eliza Doolittle, prop.
Fresh flowers from nosegays to bouquets!
Delivery available upon request.

Not hiring for any position! Unless you feel like working on the weekend.

Another Monday, another day at the shop; Romeo was grateful for it largely as something to do. He was at least cheered by the fact Yurika was due back that afternoon, just in time for the move to the cabins.

He arranged a display of summer clothes in the window and added a sign:

Pixie Dust
Fine & Casual Fashions
Now Hiring!

That done, he settled behind the counter with a pile of fashion magazines. Banana yellow was an oddly dominant color in the outfits for this season.

Back to the grind, so to speak, especially with the start of a new semester and an influx of people living on the island. Daisy was, of course, very busy at work at the computer at her desk, far too much an expert at mindless data-plugging than she'd like to admit. She did rather like the work, though, really, and she wanted to work especially hard since she knew she was taking Wednesday mornings off for her class, and she felt like such a slacker for it.

Mostly, she just hoped nothing decided to happen Wednesday mornings. She'd feel awful if something actually happened and she wound up missing it.

Monday brought another normal workday. Ender had finished going over the data he'd gotten a few weeks ago - even he couldn't keep looking at the same picture to find something new after all of that time - which meant he now had little else to do but start on the satellite's final bits of programming.

It was coming along pretty easily now, and Ender was almost bored by the time noon set in.

Town Hall, Monday

Today, Nathan was not a lemming, he hadn't seen his child kidnapped, and he had a good-sized cup of coffee steaming happily on his desk without him even asking about it. The day wasn't, ergo, half-bad.

He was going to take that as a good reason to relax. Of course, for Cable, relaxing was still inherently an act of paranoia (because most things he did were, and justifiably so) but at least it was a relaxed one.

He leaned back in his chair with the mug and watched Jan mess around with a plush toy in her chair. Yes, she was wearing a I Love New York baby tee.

Hush.

New semester, new people, potential new hires.

This was why Sean was busily putting the shop back the way it generally was. Because really, Savannah's idea of rearranging -- well, her latest idea -- had just resulted in him banging his shins on like four different displays and he was really pretty sure that anybody who came in was going to want to keep their shins uninjured.

Plus it really wasn't the way to impress anybody looking for a job. They could experience Savannah's rearrangings some other time.

Once he'd shoved everything back to how it belonged, he unearthed the Now Hiring sign and stuck it in the window.

[The OCD is off confirming tomorrow's dentist appointment for me!]

The employment numbers at Turtle & Canary had dropped significantly, but there were also new people around, and so Turtle was hoping that hiring in the empty spots wouldn't be too difficult. And she didn't even have class today, so she felt absolutely no reservations about coming into the store to man the counter and be prepared if anyone wanted to join the staff. She updated the good old hiring sign, adding a little extra glitter to freshen it up a little.

Now Hiring!
Join the Turtle & Canary Staff Today!
Great benefits! Employee Discounts! Free Squishies!
Many days available! Inquire with-in!

With that, she settled behind the counter and worked a little on some projections for the year.

Today's Squishy flavors: Grape Judas, Red, Smell of Newbie in the Morning.

Turtle & Canary is open!

After attending class, Worf arrived at Wellspring and made sure everything was in order before opening it up for the public.

He stationed himself behind the counter and watched the door like a hawk in case any of the new students had ideas about trying to buy anything.

[OCD is up. Finally. *grumbles* Please see OOC note regarding Wellspring and its services.]

It was Monday. Which meant Alex was working at the Magic Box and no longer had Monday classes occupying her time. Which may or may not have been a good thing.

For now, Alex was going to look through the charms and see if any might be useful -- she'd found some for travel and planetary protection; that last one might come in handy.

The Magic Box is open!

Alex had been in town for the better part of a week, and still hadn't woken up in the hospital to someone explaining that this was a vivid dream brought on by pain medications. So she might as well make herself useful. If they were letting her keep the name Alex Cabot, then she was going to practice law.

She hadn't seen a courthouse in town, and her file had hinted that it was best for her to stay on the island instead of looking for work on the mainland. She hadn't seen any law offices to lend her services to, either.

She had found a vacant building marked "Legal Aid." Therefore, Alex had spent the weekend handwavily cleaning up the place and filing the necessary paperwork to buy it for herself. The etching on the window now said The Law Offices of Cabot and Associates -- a polite lie, but it sounded nicer that way. The smaller lines read LEGAL SERVICES • LEGAL AID.

It was a small nod to the previous owner, and hopefully, a sign that she would take any case, regardless of ability to pay. It sounded noble. Really, she missed the law, after only a week away, and she didn't need the money.

There was a temporary sign in the window which read, Now Hiring. Alex sat at her new desk, going over paperwork, and trying not to watch the door too expectantly.

(Open! Hiring! Law offices! OCD-free!)

The afternoon found Mohinder ordering iced tea and cherry ice cream pie in defiance of the grey, cool weather outside. "You're missing out," he told the counter staff, with a pointed wave of a forkful.

On his last free day before classes, perhaps he ought to be doing something a little more work-related. Or maybe not. Instead Mohinder flipped open the paper he'd carried in under one arm, and opened it to the crossword.

Chewing thoughtfully at a pen, he looked at the first clue - Science of morals (6)

[Open as a coffee shop is!]

The Gig, Monday

[identity profile] shiniernyours.livejournal.com
Bender was in the paddock by the time he noticed his problem. "Yeah, I don't know what was-" Bender hiccupped violently, his aerial twitching as a little steam escaped. "Wrong with that batch."

Kally snuffled and batted her head against Bender's side.

Bender tucked a note into his torso - Check the proof of the new turps - and growled loudly. "All right, you're hungry again?" He went to search out the food stores. "You oughta watch it - that ass of yours ain't gonna get any smaller eating like that."

The Gig is open, the robot grumpy and the horses ignoring him. Business as usual.
