MCA Lobby [5/4]

Mina settled into the lobby today, still utterly curious about that wolf she'd encountered last week. With no new reports from The League, it was the foremost thing on her thoughts. Even sitting at her desk, doing needed paperwork, was not distracting her from the thought.

She'd seen many curious things before, from the grotesque to the amazing. While this was far from either spectrum, it still made her wonder. It could be the start of a good new bit of intelligence that she could send back to her superiors.

So if anyone needed her, there was a rather fidgety landlady behind the desk in the MCA Lobby.

There were a few things happening at MHA today. Loki was actually fucking busy. It was a new month which meant he had to do the books (and he really needed to hire a fucking secretary) and it was almost a new semester which meant he had a new class to teach.

Don't ask when Loki became fond of teaching because he'd likely curse your ass out and tell you he wasn't, he just liked the power. And, well, that wasn't untrue but teaching was a lot more fun than he'd imagined it would be. It was probably the island and the administration letting him teach shit no other school would. Still, he would never admit that shit out loud.

And he was out at the front desk, actually there for any apartment matters. It was his one day or productivity for the week. And he thought that was fucking awesome.

Book Haven, Tuesday

Yei stared up at Hinata with big blue eyes as Hinata tried not to feel too entirely foolish as she informed her kitten that, well, she would be much obliged if there was not a repeat of last week’s misadventure in the store.

Eventually, feeling that her point had been expressed eloquently enough (and well aware that the odds of Yei listening to her were slim-to-none) Hinata set the kitten down and fetched a book to read.

Book Haven is Open.

Ino darted into work, a few minutes late and trying hard to pretend she wasn’t. It wasn’t her fault, really! She’d gotten sidetracked in training, playing with a few things that she’d been looking up since she’d talked to Emma, and before Ino had noticed it the hours had flown by.

Cheerfully tired—the mind took more energy than the body, at least when she was playing with half formed theories—Ino settled in and devoted herself to a) pretending it was any other week and b) working out some of the kinks she’d found.

With Leto's upcoming return to Arrakis Irulan's thoughts have been drawn more and more to the idea of returning to Arrakis herself, her Arrakis that is.

Irulan smiled, noting the irony that she would want to return to a desert planet than remain on an island that is paradise compared to Dune. In any case, she still had a shop to run. She placed a placard on the door and it read:

Graduation Sale!
50% Off for all Graduates!

The door was propped open today due to the nice weather. Okay also on the off chance that the hint of cooler air inside would tempt in passerby.

At the moment, he was trying to organize the medicine bags, as they'd gotten all jumbled together.

Coyote Medicine is open.

The warm weather, and working on the boardwalk was making Tim hanker for Cony Island and the Jersey Shore. Soon as I get off work I'm going right down to the beach there and get myself a sunburn.

In the meantime he needed to give his mother an update. "Yeah, finals went fine." he said, tucking the phone under his chin to hold it there while his hands were busy stocking the shelves. "Wait, he what? Mom congratulations! It's about time he got around to it! Have you guys set a date yet?"

Android's Dungeon is open.

Gibbs was back at work, plowing through the paperwork in his usual efficient manner.

Occasionally when Ralph would go by, Gibbs would smack him in the head.

No real reason, really. He probably deserved it.

Everything was so shiny when she came in, Sookie was delighted to notice. Not that anything had needed to be polished, in her opinion, but now it all pretty much gleamed. As a nice touch, Sookie ran outside and picked some flowers to put in a water glass. (She figured it was a nice enough gesture that no one would mind her messing up a glass to use as a vase.)

As she was arranging the flowers, she paused, tilted her head, and yelled to the back, "You stop that now! Just 'cause you're using bananas today doesn't mean the peels go where I'm gonna trip. Nice try."

The kitchen staff grumbled to one another as they picked up the peels grumpily, their fun ruined.

Citrus Sponge Cake with Strawberries

Luke's was open, if sort of breakfast-ly focused.

Mary was not having a good day. She hadn't been at the front desk for very long before she noticed that there was butterscotch spilling from underneath the kitchen door. It turned out that one of Gunther's cooking experiments had gone haywire and now there was a flood of butterscotch pouring out into the lobby.

There as no special today because the specials board was being used as a barrier to stop the butterscotch flood. But the hotel was open. Mary would gladly give room discounts to anyone who grabbed a mop and pitched in to help clean up.

Raven was trying not to feel too sad about people leaving the island now that they'd graduated. Fortunately, work gave her something else to focus on.

Or perhaps, given where she worked, unfortunately.

Atlas Gym - Tuesday

The sound system in the gym was broken. That meant there was no blasting music to drown out Jessi's shouted instructions from the Tae Bo classes that took up most of Tuesday.

And that meant that Rose was about to go into the damn room and duct tape Jessi's mouth shut so she never had to hear "And punch! Punch! Two-three-four! Now kick! Bring that knee up! You're doing so good!!" Seriously, it was bad enough talking to Jessi, but to hear her teach her high-pitched class was way too much for anyone to handle.

This was why Rose was outside the gym in the sunshine. She'd even brought out the lost and found to sort out (and see if there was anything in there she could appropriate), but really she was just enjoying the sunshine.

It was a nice day, and Lion-o didn't particularly feel like working. Which was just fine at Café Fina, where the staff was happy to do all the heavy lifting and keep Lion-o entertained while he chowed down on cake.

Double Layer Chocolate Cake

Kris was in a thoughtful mood when she arrived at the stable. Watching the Kentucky Derby this weekend made her wistful. Betting on a horse race was not the same as actually racing in one.

It also made her miss Wildfire more. She was still seriously considering going back to Fremont to visit him. For now, she took care of the horses here.

The Gig was open.

Jack looked around the shop. It might be the last time he saw the place from behind the counter, now that he'd graduated and had to move on. Eventually.

Today, he was plotting world domination, using camera lenses and talking in a robotic voice like that time on Mr. What where they were in World War II in London.

The poison was nowhere to be seen this morning, but there was also a distinct lack of rattie corpses.

Deciding to assume they were gone, at least for the moment, Marcus settled himself in the shed to finish fixing the radio.

When he tried to leave an hour later, the door wouldn't open. Eyes narrowed, he threw his full weight against it.

Nothing.

Marcus wasn't stupid--there was only one door, so when he'd turned the shed into something useable, he'd also cut a panel* in the roof. It was simple enough to lift it, grab the edge, haul himself out and jump down to the ground.

The door was completely wedged shut, bits of wood and metal jammed under it, and there were tracks of paws and tail in the dirt around the shed.

"Fucking rats." Sad thing was, he wasn't even surprised.

Fraser, being the kind fiancé he was (and sane person), had brought home some of the enormous graduation brunch cake. Robin had been steadily working through it, to the degree that tonight, she was behind the bar eating yet another slice of cake.

So what if it was a few days old. Cake didn't go bad. At least, as far as Robin could tell. Besides, she'd made Tino eat a bit, too, so if she got food poisoning she was taking him down with her.
