"I think you all know why I've called you here today."

Cable stood at the front of the large room, on a platform that made him look even bigger than he already was. Wearing a dark blue spandex suit and the mother of all huge-ass guns on his back, he made for quite a figure.

"Our citizens have been attacked, or even kidnapped. Communications have been cut off. Most of the island is now covered in a labyrinth. I caution you all not to enter it. Likewise for the bog that seems to be surrounding the school at the present time. We are now all operating under a state of emergency; anyone who isn't armed should feel free to take arms from Wellspring, or from my private reserve here."

Yes, he kept guns in the Mayor's office. Was anyone really surprised?

"But rest assured that this emergency will not go on forever. I am already putting security precautions in place, but to do this effectively, I need your help." He glanced around the room. "These goblins are kidnapping lone stragglers out on the town. Do not go outside without an escort. Preferably several. And I would like anyone who wants to lend a hand to let us know now, or at least form a team to patrol the area on their own. No one benefits from lone rangers." Well, unless they were him. But anyway... "I'd especially like to ask you all to be vigilant around the dorms. So far, the invaders have only taken students, and I think we can all agree that their safety is a top priority. A team will need to set up a defense perimeter there."

He gave the gathered one last group. "And if anyone has any recon whatsoever on what these things are and how we can stop them, I suggest you make sure we all know about it," he said. "I know many of you will be hitting the books soon. Keep us informed."

And now that that had sunk in... "Now, ladies and gentlemen, we have dealt with worse in the past. Plenty of invaders have tried. There isn't a trace of doubt in my mind that we can beat back this latest batch and still be back home safe in time for Christmas."

He nodded, and took a step back, making room for any of his colleagues to take the stand, if they wished.

Starting in the wee-hours of the morning, there came a hollering from the Preserve. Yelling. Laughter, the flickering light of bonfires, and the sounds of one heck of a party.

Don't lose your head, kids. The Fireys have moved in, and they're looking for people to play with.

Loki didn't know what the fuck was going on outside but he knew he wasn't going to check it out. The walls had grown around and nearly through his fucking pool so staying inside seemed like the safest option.

Fuck this fucking island. Loki was almost ready to beg Metatron to ask God to send him back to fucking Wisconsin. This shit was old and done with.

You see, the thing with Shunsui was that waking up from a drugged, drunken stupor filled with elaborate dreams was kind of like any other Tuesday for Shunsui, and he wasn't typically too aware of things around him when he woke up like that, so he didn't notice a great deal of difference with today, except a general feeling of something being changed.

Besides, there had been wonderfully vivid, fond remembrance of his interactions with two beautiful blondes that had gone particularly well and had him musing aloud to Apu-san about them. "I think," he said with a certain bubbling, "it's a sign ♥. That I should ask one of them out ♥. Or both ♥. At the same time ♥."

Apu-san, sighing and realizing that his boss was not going to do anything about keeping the goblins out of the store, armed himself with a broom and humoured Shunsui with the occasional, "Yes, yes, do that. I do not care. If you'll excuse me..."

"I wonder how they'd look in glasses ♥," Shunsui continued to muse, but, eventually, he realized something was definitely off, got off the subject of beautiful blondes, and had to inquired, "Apu-san, did you do something new to the frozen food section?"

Apu-san sighed, not knowing exactly how to explain that the frozen food section appeared to have turned into a section of the labyrinth. Thankfully, it looked like he didn't have to.

"I don't know if I like it," Shunsui frowned. "It's got terrible feng shui. Fix it, Apu-san. Can't have our customers being confused, you know ♥."

It was going to be a long, sad day for Apu-san, oh yes.

It would figure that the causeway would disappear and something creepy invaded the island when Mary had a large number of reservations for the weekend. It was going to take her a while to cancel all of them in the system since the computer did not offer an option for the property being cut off from the rest of the world, but there was nothing else she could do.

In the meantime, she sent Gunther back to the kitchen to cook up a storm. If there was a crisis going on, people were going to need food and shelter.

While Robin had stuck her gun in her purse before heading out, just in case, she had managed to make it to the bar in one piece.

And once she was there, she set up camp behind said bar, all but barricading herself in with bottles. And the only reason she really didn't was because she knew that people needed to come in and drink hard liquor, and it was her job to get it for them.

Le sigh.

Blossom had a hand to the wall as she stared along it to where the town park used to be.

"I walked all over the island yesterday and this wasn't here; it was still the park. And now it totally looks like it's been walled up the whole time!" She turned to face Robin... the other Robin (and hadn't that been an interesting surprise on the other end of the phone line). "It's like it's grow here or something. But it's stone! And there doesn't seem to be any sort of reason for the places that get walled up."

At least none that she could see. But maybe Robin could?
