Bod had decided earlier in the week to spend some of this weekend off island. It had been too long since he'd gotten off for a bit of fresh air and he figured he could spend some sitting in bookstores, drinking hot chocolate and purchasing some new books to add to his collection. But, that was for tomorrow and today, he was wiping down the front counters of the diner while listening to the quiet chatter of the cooking staff in the kitchen. He felt almost content. Almost.

Ben hadn't needed the radio broadcast to tell him that Leia had returned to the island, and he promised himself that he'd go track her down and see how she was doing once his shift at the shop was over. Seeing Dink and Carn over the weekend and hearing them talk about some teacher named Anderson had prompted him to listen to a few more of the audio tracks from Ender's past: he'd guessed from context that Anderson was the second voice in the earlier recordings. Ben took a deep breath, braced himself, and then clicked the next conversation.

Cut for teal deer. )

Ben picked up the flip camera from the AV Club on Wednesday to take apart and modify, his chosen way of repressing Bad Things.

Shhh, it was healthy.

Fixer-Uppers was open!

It was a quiet day at the hotel. Then Gunther decided to make Mary watch the most recent episode of "Top Chef" because his nemesis Wolfgang Puck had been a guest judge. Mary wasn't sure how she was supposed to pay attention since Gunther kept giving her rapid-fire commentary on how Wolfgang Puck was so stupid.

Welcome to the Arms Hotel!

Harper rolled her eyes when she opened the crate with the vintage bags. She didn't think there would be any demand for something with the logo of an airline that was no longer operating.

She was wrong. The first customer to spot the bag eagerly handed cash and didn't even wait for her change. The second customer was so excited to find one that she jumped up and down for joy and even hugged Harper before leaving with her bag. Then a third customer called the store and offered $50 over the sticker price for Harper to hold a bag until she got there.

"Maybe simple is better under certain circumstances," said Harper, taking a close look at the last remaining bag.

It was Friday night which meant the start of the weekend and Nathan found himself at the bowling alley. Yeah, shut the fuck up, it wasn't like he could afford to do much else. There was actually money in his pocket from both working and his mum but blowing it all in one night wasn't going to happen this time. He'd done that before and suffered in the days after, surviving off ketchup packets and water from dirty water fountains. It hadn't been fun.

The bowling alley in town was both cheap and entertaining. He could order a huge plate of nachos (with everything on them, of course), a drink and bowl as many games as he wanted all for the cost of going out to some club to pay for some chick high on acid to rub against the front of his pants. Besides, having some nameless chick rub against him at this point in time would be a detriment to his health.

Namely, he'd probably get his ass killed.

Whatever, he wasn't thinking about getting killed. Currently, he was chatting it up with some cute girl in the lane over, challenging her to bowl a strike. If she did, he'd do a headfirst slide down the lane and into the pins, risking both a concussion and severe injuries to his naughty bits. She took the challenge and, fortunately for him, left a split standing. Oops, better luck next time! She bet him another plate of nachos that he couldn't hit five pins with his eyes closed.

This time, Nathan won and sent her off to get more nachos immediately. Hey, he was skinny and he could put the food away. No need to wait when he was hungry and content! More nachos for him!

[Open place in town thus open post]

Maladicta did not know who 'Enrigue Iglesias' was or what exactly he liked so much to sing about it. But it was a minor step up from her last evening at the club. At least the music didn't make her want to find a nice stake to fall on.

She was able to ignore the music at the very least. And drink her coffee from her spot behind the bar. It was a good Friday night.

After fiddling behind the bar for the first hour or so of the night, Jessica decided she had to give something a test. She'd read about this on the internet on some webpage, and while she thought it was silly, she figured she'd better try it out herself just to make sure it worked or not. She took a deep breath, got out the spice jar she'd tucked in her bag, and sprinkled a bunch of poppy seeds across the bar.

"Well, that's stupid," she muttered to herself, looking down at the seeds. "I ain't feeling like I gotta count them all or nothin'." Which was a relief if she ever ran into somebody with a poppy seed bagel. Some of these vampire legends were so dumb.
