Vida wasn't going to let the dreary weather dissuade her from celebrating the start of summer. (Even if technically it wasn't until June 21. Details. Hush.) She was going to have another Strawberry Social even if it meant conjuring dark powers to bring about a sunny day. Or, well, asking if someone would terribly mind doing something about the rain.

Cut for image. )

[Text: Strawberry Social! Red & Wild! Friday, June 3, in the park, starting at noon. Come celebrate the summer with all things red and strawberry! Music, dancing, and yummy food! Bring your favorite strawberry dish! See Miss Vida for more information. Dress code: RED]

[OOC: Mostly just establishy, but if you want to catch Vida putting up signs around town, feel free. Emails are going out to everyone as well, including alumni/ex-pats, as this is the event to bring alumni to the island for the AU weekend.]

It was a new month which meant more paperwork than usual for Fraser. There was rent to file, leases to look over and acquisition forms to out through. Fraser, head down, was busily working on getting all the beginning of the month things completed.

Dief was curled up in a chair, sleeping and snoring. He had the better life.

Sov decided this was going to be a lazy day. They would of course help customers and do what was needed in the shop, but this was not a day for anything beyond that. They leaned against the counter, head in their hands, and watched a bumblebee explore the shelves.

[open shop, although I'll be away , I'm afraid. Mod your service, please.]

Once again, the interior of Book Haven and the sidewalk outside it was bright and sunny. The only bright and sunny spot on the island, undoubtedly!

And there was still a HELP WANTED sign in the window.

The constant rain was a bit reminiscent of home. Without, of course, the scorching heat, slogging mud and dangerous animals and people.

Still, Helen and the horses were indoors yet again.

Eric and Jack were at the front of class as usual, with laptops placed on the desks in the classroom. "Today we learn about using property to build up long-term wealth," Eric said smootly. "Through flash games and not actual money."

He liked his money, thank you so much.

"The goal is to accrue enough wealth that you can buy a 10 million dollar home, hopefully before you die," he said, turning on the game. "It took Jack 91 years so he's out of luck."

"Not if I live forever," Jack grumbled.

"See if you can best his score," Eric concluded before going into more detail about how the game worked.

There was one thing Cally could say for the island's new surroundings: her datapad had access to a much wider network of computers and other technological devices.

Granted, most of the communications traffic was in languages she didn't know, and even the stuff in English was couched in slang she didn't understand. What, for instance, was a Rat-Thing when it was at home, and why would she want to buy one as personal protection when she had a perfectly good gigantic mountain of fur, and a laser blaster?

Still, spelunking the local equivalent of a comm grid for any information about extra-solarsystem travel (a.k.a. Has anyone, anywhere ever heard of my planet?) was marginally more interesting than re-stocking the green modeling clay after the third time the counter display had been sculpted into an anatomically-correct statue of some part of the gremlin mating cycle.

Strokes of Genius was open and... interestingly decorated.

[OOC: The OCD was eaten by Katchoo-missing gremlins.]

Right, so ... people had totally heard of that one famous internet post where the guy had claimed to be running a breeding program for M&M's?

It wasn't like George had anything better to do at work today.

(Well. She could do work, but exactly what part of that sounded interesting?)

Turtle and Canary was open, and was working its way through a bag of M&M's. So far, the victor seemed to be a light brown one, but anyone could win, really.

(open/ocd-free)

Chuck was usually a huge fan of Tokyo, but he was getting pretty damn tired of all the rain. He was absolutely soaked when he came into work since it was a long walk to the bar when you moved as slowly as he did. He was thankful he had taken to wearing cheaper clothes because if he had been in a suit he would have been pissed. As it was he was just mildly annoyed. Nothing a drink couldn't cure.
