Fandom High Lacrosse Club, The Park, Thursday After Classes
Thursday, September 27th, 2012 01:32 pmAnother week, another meeting in the park, in the same general area as last week's. Jackson was there again, and so was all the equipment. The targets on the trees, however, were not. The trees could take a breather this week. Metaphorically.
"Welcome back," Jackson nodded to the group. "Last week, you tried getting the ball the go where you want it to." With varying levels of success. "This week is more of the same. Except this week, I want you to pair up because we'll be going over another basic thing, which is passing the ball to another player, and when you're that other player, catching the ball. You can see how that's useful, right?"
He'd hope they did. He launched into an explanation and a demonstration (slowed down to a mime for explanatory purposes, and because he didn't feel like asking anyone to actually demonstrate with him) on the basics of both passing and catching a lacrosse ball. How to hold your stick, what the correct stance is, how to keep the ball from bouncing straight out of the pocket, all of it. Once done, he said, "In a game, this would be a lot more hectic and dynamic, but I'm starting you off easy. You can just pair up and stand at some distance from each other, and try and get the ball from one pocket to another – oh, and helmets are mandatory this time, I don't want any black eyes blamed on me. Got it? Get to it."
