Kitty was having one of those days where a lot of little things was going wrong. Forgetting her phone at home and having to go back for it, spilling quite a few things and deciding that maybe leather pants were a bad idea today, breaking a glass without the excuse of being really stupid to back it up, that kind of thing. By this point she was sort of just waiting for the next thing to go wrong.

It was freezing out. Victor taunted himself by checking LA forecasts on his phone and wished he hadn't; the 50-degree temperature gap was enough to make him want to cry. It was the rare day when he wished he was there and not here.

But he couldn't change the weather, so he turned the shop space heater up to high and settled in to sort electrical components. He was glad Surreal was coming by as part of their ethics assignment -- company would make the day, and the extremely boring task, go faster.

Cafe Luke's, Tuesday Afternoon

The past four years had spoiled her. That was the only reason Karla could think of for being this cold today. Four layers and her winter jacket and she was still shivering. There was going to be a lot of readjusting to (the aptly-named) Glacia's weather and a winter that easily lasted six months out of the year.

And that was in the lowlands.

But that was a bridge she'd probably burn for firewood when she came to it. Today she was just happy to get to work and discover the cook was feeling the cold just as much and had prepared the menu accordingly.

Karla tucked herself into a corner of the kitchen with lots of food and the restaurant ledger. It was warm and homey in there and so long as she didn't try to help with the cooking, no one minded her staying put.
