It was probably a terrible idea to bring a kitten to work with her, but at least Éponine had decided to let her stay in the post office while she was out on her route. ("Your legs are so short, you'll get tired dreadfully quickly trying to keep up with me," she'd said while arranging a corner with food and water and a little nest of blankets.) That was something, at least.

Her time actually spent in the post office looked less like working and more like sitting cross-legged in the middle of the floor, playing with Alouette.

She'd argue that she was valiantly trying to protect all the paper objects in the room from a curious kitten's sharp claws and teeth. Technically, she wasn't even lying about that.

It occurred to Kitty that if this teaching thing actually worked out, she might have to start doing things like making sure she wore all her clothes to her night job. She was pretty okay with that, too; she'd outgrown a lot of the reasons she'd taken to wearing that stuff to begin with. At the very least certain items, mainly anything where Clint's response had been "Aren't you cold?" or "Is that actually a shirt?", should probably be retired.

After she wore them one more time. What, she didn't feel the need to look respectable yet.

So tonight was seeing the return of the shirt that, no, was totally not actually a shirt, per se. And while she'd learned that this was not the kind of outfit where she could do inventory in it, she could make Tino do things like that while she'd just make sure the bar was in working order.

Chipmunks.

Soapy, highly agitated chipmunks, who were being shot out of modified rubber-chicken guns by a pair of cackling Gremlins at the poor DJ.

...you know what? Emma was just going to let it happen for a little bit longer, because it was karma. The moment they turned those chipmunks on her or the patrons, however, she was shifting to diamond and tossing their little green butts out the back door.

The Devil's Nest was open, just don't step on a fleeing chipmunk.

It was inventory day!

There was nothing interesting to report. Books were books, computers were computers. Emily was both relieved and disappointed.

Suffice to say, she was knocking on wood every three seconds.
