There wasn't a lot to do in the shop today -- even Jarvis was quiet, and there was no excess fruit anywhere. Victor honestly found this a little bit creepy, but he was going to make the most of it while he could. He downloaded the complete run of Vindicators Venue and settled in to read.

It was an overly violent Royal Battle rip-off, but he was okay with that -- he liked a little gore from time to time. He was even fine with the giant metal alien getting smashed by falling rocks, though the guy didn't deserve it. But when the comic killed off the coolest female character left in a totally implausible way, Victor set his e-reader aside in a way that was just short of flinging it.

Now he was going to be in a bad mood for the rest of the day. What was the point of superhero comics if the characters were just going to die?

April and Cliff were out for their usual 'morning' (2 PM) walk when April's phone rang. That was weird, because people basically never called her. Even weirder, the ringing wasn't 'I Hate My Job,' the customized ringtone she had set up just for her boyfriends. Who else still used their phone as a phone?

She thought about letting it go to voicemail, but Cliff was doing some stuff on the ground anyway, and if April was on the phone then no one could give her a hard time for not cleaning it up as she walked. She put her phone to her ear. "What?"

The voice on the end sounded weirdly familiar, but not so familiar that April had the slightest clue who she was talking to. "Hi, is this April Ludgate?"

April's response was predictably hostile. "Who wants to know?"

"I'm going to take that as a yes," said the rather presumptuous person the other end of the line. April would have scoffed, but she didn't care that much. He was right, anyway. "Miss Ludgate, we've actually met before. I manage the pet store in town. Or, well, I did. We're making some business changes that were partially inspired by your suggestions the last time Fandom was... Fandom, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in joining our team."

"Seriously?" Now April really did crouch down to clean up after Cliff, because she kind of needed something else to fixate on at the moment. "Uh." She cleared her throat. "What kind of business changes?"

The guy told her. Apparently, although Everything But The Monkey had been run as a pet store for years now, they were transitioning to the nonprofit shelter model. To be more humane, and presumably also for the tax breaks. April tossed Cliff's plastic bag at the nearest trash can (and missed), straightening up and listening intently (which she never did).

They were asking her to work with animals that needed homes. Maybe ones that were injured in some way. And she would actually get to have a say in how the animals were treated and make sure the place took decent care of them. It was a no-brainer, really.

"Yeah, I'm interested," she said. "When do you want me to come in?"

Emma was still finding leftover glitter from the Pride party all over the shop - in the register, on top of merchandise, and no matter how much she swept the floor, there were still glitter trails popping up everywhere the moment she turned her back. She was starting to think that Sparkle's cat shed glitter instead of fur.

Dite's Decadent Delights was open, although you might get glitter in your hair.

Today was National Piña Colada Day! Bet you didn't even know there was a day like that.

Too bad it wasn't Kenzi's day at Caritas, or this would have been easy; instead, there were Piña Colada Cupcakes and smoothies on the board.

And of course now Kenzi was singing That Song, and had half the kitchen humming along, and the other half threatening homicide.

There was no Taylor Swift tonight. Oh no, tonight we were graced with the musical stylings of Daft Punk and Pharrell Williams for reasons Derek couldn't even begin to understand.

Maybe it had something to do with the slow motion over at Caritas yesterday.

Maybe the DJ was just luring him into a sense of hope that his Taylor Swifting was at an end. Let's be real, the latter was more likely.
