"Today," Hannibal said, "I wanted to introduce a few basic verbs that you may find useful." He wrote them on the board:

Būti - to be
Galeti - can (helping verb)
Gaminti - to cook
Daryti - to do
Tureti - to have

He went over the conjugation of each, then continued, "So, I think you've all at least learned enough to begin trying to converse. You will want to know one more very important phrase, however: kaip tu sakai. That means 'how do you say'."

He smiled a bit mischievously. "So. Talk to me and amongst yourselves. Lietuvių. In Lithuanian."

Okay, today, Evan came into the Book Haven expecting the worst. Mumbles and whispers and memories and all sorts of nasty things just lingering around him in the air to be heard when he least expected it. And he started to put out new books and straighten shelves with that thought in mind.

Around the time he came back from his early lunch (he went to class rather than eat, these days, because he really hadn't thought out his class schedule that well this semester at all), he was almost - almost convinced that today he was going to get off totally free.

He was still paranoid, though. The second he let his guard down, that would be when the island would decide to mess with him.

The post office seemed to have a surplus of bubble wrap today, both the regular kind and the kind with the extra-large bubbles. Éponine could swear she hadn't ordered that much of the stuff when she sent in the last resupply order, but in trying to argue her case to the delivery person went to go get her copy of the order form and couldn't find it anywhere.

"There's a very particular place those forms are supposed to go, and I always make sure to put them there," she'd objected as she all but tore the service counter apart looking for it. "It's stupid that it isn't there now!"

Stupid it might be, or just inexplicable (except she wasn't feeling too charitable about it), but one way or another the order form was nowhere to be found. So now, beside the small NOW HIRING sign in the corner of the front window, was a larger, hand-lettered sign that read in somewhat shaky block letters: SPECIAL! ALL BUBBLE WRAP HALF OFF!

And now, for the rest of the day, Éponine was stuck spending all her time between deliveries putting the counter back in order again.
