Hannibal nodded at everybody as they sat. He had a handout for them today with quite a bit of vocabulary on it.

“This weekend reminded me that there are any number of eventualities we might need to prepare for on this island,” he said dryly, and shook his head. This weekend had been…interesting. “Combined with the previous one,” he nodded to Jono and Eleanor, “I thought some vocabulary less traditional for conversation classes might be useful.”Read more... )

Éponine hadn't left home all weekend. Whether this had anything to do with the island's latest wacky weekend was uncertain (for all anyone including herself knew she could've been in an emocoma), but she'd missed out on anyone else's embarrassment. She regretted it a bit after overhearing some of her coworkers' conversation this morning, but it wasn't really on her mind any more after one of them made an offhand comment to her about how it was just about a year now since she'd arrived, wasn't it?

So, if she kept breaking off what she was doing to lapse into long periods of silence and stare off at some vague point in the distance, then suddenly snap back to attention with a sharp laugh and resume sorting mail into PO boxes or restocking supplies, that was why.

A whole year. She'd never expected that.

The kitchen staff were arguing when Bay walked in. Half of them were pro-Valentine's Day, half of them thought it was a depressing Hallmark cash grab of a holiday. Bay had been feeling single and bitter lately, so she argued for a while on the anti-V-day side. The disagreement ended abruptly when a pro-romance got a little too excited while stirring the soup and flicked the ladle through the air, spattering half the kitchen. Bay retreated to the front counter.

She'd be there all day, picking clams and bits of cooked celery out of her hair every so often. At least the broth had matched her red sweater.

After people switching genders, and the power exchange thing, and this last weekend, and hearing voices and seeing things on a fairly regular basis, Kitty did not trust the fact that today was a normal, quiet day.

The only weird thing happening today was that the Olympics were on in the back room, and Tino seemed to be a little sorry that Bob Costas and his pinkeyes weren't on. That counted as weird, right?
