The music picked up quietly, as it had done in times past. But this time there was no choral hymn, no quiet harmony of voices. This time there was a guitar, though it strummed the same notes, soft and gentle.

The sky shimmered. The guitar's volume increased until it punched to the fore, no longer in any position to be ignored. Then its melody was joined by a husky but young female voice, singing, self-contained but with her own particular flavor of force. joined the melody.

"You can picture happy gath'rings
Round the fireside long ago,
And you think of tearful partings
When they left you here below..."

The next chord struck false. Something snapped. The shimmer tore open, revealing a brief vision of pillars and garishly-painted statues-- and a whirlwind of white toga with blue highlights. The fabric blocked the view of the pillars abruptly, and then suddenly it was no longer an image, there, real--

--and collapsing into the grass of the park with an audible "Oof!"

Elizabeth pulled her cheek off the dry mud and exposed it to the cold air. She shivered. An irrational thought shot through her head: it hadn't been that cold but two minutes ago, had it? She pressed her hands to the ground and scrambled up, pulling her toga more closely around herself. It didn't help. "Where... where am I...?"

[[ welcome, AU NPCs! you should have all received invitations to the fandomtownies and fandomhighdorms comms. as of tonight (ie, posts set late tonight or after), you're free to appear at whatever time you wish. also, open. cue me being unable to listen to anything but Elizabeth's canon soundtrack for two weeks. ]]

Dinah was taking a long lunch. Or, well, a long ice-cream break. Some days, you needed something like that to get through a hard work day.

"So, if I checked in on someone here, kinda as a social worker, would that be a bad thing, or a stupid thing?" she asked Sheba. "'Cause I might've done that yesterday."

[ooc: for the bff, but open for your ice cream needs.]

Monday morning, Ron spent some time upstairs in the apartment enjoying large helpings of breakfast food. After consuming this food, he took a moment to discard the newspaper someone had once again left on his doorstep, fixed several lamps around the house, then descended down the stairs to open up the shop.

This involved turning the sign on the door to 'open' (a practice that was necessary but he detested, because on one hand, it provided the motor oil for the engine of capitalism, but on the other hand, it meant people could come in and bother him) and then sitting down behind his desk with a woodworking project. He believed he could make an eagle out of this block of wood by the end of the day. It would be a fair and honest day's labor, unlike tomorrow, when he would have to go to town hall and refuse to represent local government.

But for today, he was relatively content. Whether he would remain that way was entirely dependent on lunch.

Kenzi was practicing Giselle's mad scene in back of the bar. Tino was staying far, far away. Some of those kicks might almost reach his face. Most of them would definitely reach other parts that were even more precious.

Reality bent yet again. Flashes of red, yellow and grey were seen. Then another flash of a neon sign where only the word "king" could blurrily be seen.

And finally a flash of green and yellow as a young man appeared in mid air right before crashing on to a table which caused several other young men to appear who looked exactly like the first.

"Where are we?"
"What happened to the perk?"
"Joffrey is going to be pissed when he sees they redecorated."
"Look! Pie!"

Jamie sighed and pulled himself off the ground and absorbed his dupes. He looked carefully around at the perk and sighed.

And successfully squashed the urge to make jokes about Kansas.

[Available off and on during the evening.]

After a nice chat with his grandfather last night and a good workout at class today, Cade was whistling around the shop (between sips of coconut water, of course) as he worked on various projects.

It was good to keep busy, right?

Starks was open and industrious two weeks in a row. Weird, huh?

Éponine was a bit hard to find today, if you were looking for her out front of the post office; she would dart through every now and then, but for the most part customers were going to be at the mercy of the other NPC employees if they wanted service.

That might not be a bad thing; her parents had taught her well, and she wouldn't have hesitated to tack on every last tiny surcharge she could come up with if someone wanted to mail a package, or to try and lift the wallet of someone who wandered in just to buy stamps.

Really, it was best for any patrons of the post office that she'd be too busy with delivery runs (and possibly a few other, more elaborate little thefts, particularly later in the day when Cosette was out of class and she had an accomplice) to deal with them herself.

[OOC: Yeah so now both girls' AUs have sort of dovetailed because yeah, favorite what-if scenario . . .]
