In his quest to prove that the future's music couldn't be all Katy Perry and Justin Bieber, Roland had at least managed to add a few good modern songs to his repertoire. Like the ones he was singing today.

So it was sort of an odd mix of tones. That was what happened when you based your musical theme on the odd morning encounter.

The floor was wet. The freezer door had some sort of suspiciously tropical vegetation growing on either side of it. And Priestly was pretty sure that when he braved a peek inside, he'd spotted a penguin wearing sunglasses and being fanned by baby seals holding palm fronds.

On the counter was a sack of freshly purchased meats and vegetables, with a handwritten note reading "Farmer's markets > freezers" on it.

Priestly shook his head at it all. "I honestly thought it'd be limited to the snails."

Today's specials
Jamaican jerk chicken
Fried plantains
Fruit pasteles
The management apologizes for the lack of anything frozen today.
The freezer is being repaired.
Please do not make eye contact with freezer repairmen.
Or wandering penguins.
The seals appear friendly, though.

Luke's was open.

Mostly.

[flying OCDless today. It's like the RP version of going commando.]

Groovy Tunes, Thursday

Jono was actually in a pretty good mood, today. He'd gotten a package in the mail from one of Momoko's old friends, who had taken and altered his old long beige coat from his New Warriors days so that it would actually fit him again. So that was what he was wearing, sort of reveling in it, actually. He'd made a lot of memories in that coat. Sure, he was still going to wear his black leather more often than not. He didn't have to worry about scorching this coat quite so badly back in the day, after all. But for now? A comfortable long jacket seemed like the way to go.

Today was a Caravan Palace day, mostly because he'd just picked a CD at random today, and was pleased with the results.

There was also a Help Wanted sign in the window, because he still had a few openings left, and a good-mood-day seemed like as good as any to do job interviews, should anybody want a position.

"... and you want six random portal hops?" Kaidan repeated.

His eyebrows had achieved an entirely new level of frowning. He stared at the door. Then he stared at the paperwork. The person on the other side - a woman, by the sounds of it - kept talking.

"Okay," he said slowly, "I... guess we can run some numbers..."

Beat.

"You're sure you don't want us to preclear the uni-- okay. Okay."

He laid down the phone.

"Well, that will end well," he muttered.

Judging by the thunder rumbling in the distance they were going to get a storm at some point during the night. Allie was almost looking forward to it. Storms were much more enjoyable when you had a non-leaking roof over your head. But until the weather chased her inside, she was going to perch on her usual bench in the park and enjoy the evening.

Ichabod arrived at the shop for his first day of work feeling quite exited. It was the first paid employment he had ever had, it involved books and (and this he wouldn't admit to himself) his father would not approve.

Opening up the shop and making himself familiar with what was on the shelves, he suddenly heard a faint giggle. Who else was in the shop?! Then he heard it again, this time for another direction and a little louder. He located the corner it had come from, and moved all the books from that shelf.

There was nothing there. But someone snickered behind his back. Ichabod spun around, but yet again there was no one there.

Then there was a loud guffaw, which went on long enough for Ichabod to identify the source. A copy of A History of the World was shaking with laughter on its shelf. It's neighbour, a book on British Colonialism, joined in.

It turned out that the books where laughing at him, mostly behind his back. Ichabod sank down on the chair behind the counter, not sure whether to be astonished or offended. He eventually settled on both.
