Considering she had a shift later, Kitty decided to take her usual everyday Caritas management work over to JGOB for a change of scenery. She had coffee, a pastry, and was taking up a table with paperwork and other not-fun stuff that she had to get done, but at least she had some soothing, bland, inoffensive coffee shop music to listen to.

Also, arguing baristas. Can't forget the arguing baristas.

It probably meant something that today was the first day Celia hadn't nearly tripped over felt spiders or orange and black streamers when she'd come in to work. Instead, there was a shipment of tiny little pumpkins waiting for her, all small enough to fit in the palm of her hand.

"You know, it's still summer for another month," she told the box, as though it might have some sort of defense. But Celia loved autumn, anyway, and it went with the bizarre Hallowe'en thing they'd been doing for weeks, anyway.

Perhaps if she got bored enough, she'd draw little faces on them, even. That would be adorable.

One week from today, and Irene would be faced with a classroom full of teenagers, wide-eyed and likely embarrassed beyond the telling of it.

She really couldn't wait.

To celebrate her last Tuesday shift at Dite's, she stuck a sign in the window, advertising once again that they were, in fact, hiring, and then meandered to the back to organize the display of crotchless panties.

(Well, not only those, but they seemed to have a particularly difficult time staying on their hangers, for some reason.)

There had been several complaints about undelivered packages of late, much to Éponine's annoyance; she'd come to take a certain fierce pride in how she did her job (her self-loathing, particularly since the carnival, manifested itself in interesting ways) and knew it wasn't because she had missed anything.

So she'd arrived extra early this morning to investigate, oddly grateful for having so much practice in finding unlikely little nooks and crannies to use as hiding places, and holed herself up behind a stack of empty sorting bins to watch when the morning's incoming mail arrived from the mainland processing station.

It took a half hour or so but eventually, while the early-morning postal worker whose job it was to unload the bins of sorted and bundled mail from the delivery golf cart was inside dropping off a load, she spotted a lumpy package in a yellow padded envelope scurrying across the ground seemingly all by itself, and leaped out of her hiding place.

. . . which was how she could now say that she started her work day by scolding a gremlin.

At least she managed to convince it to give back all the missing mail.

Ender, Ben and Cade were packing up for Naboo later that day - Ender couldn't say he was particularly sad about it. But with his few possessions already largely in their bags, he had very little to do this morning besides take a walk around the island, look at the various landmarks he wouldn't be seeing for a couple months at least, and then finally settle in at the Perk for a last hit of caffeine.

So there he was now, nursing his triple espresso and watching the people go by through the window. Not a bad last day, all in all. He was planning to make the most of it.

After spending part of her morning talking about Galactus and planet-eating as an actual threat, Kitty was maybe not in the lightest mood.

And then she came in to work and found that the band was actually wearing the shirts advertising their band. Kitty wasn't about to tell them how douchey it looked, especially since it did make her day better.
