There was a sign up at the bar tonight that proclaimed it ladies night. Which probably wasn't as much of a lure on this island as others, but it was still up.

And Derek was giving it a disgruntled look.

He should probably mention drink specials or shirtless bartenders on there, but he'd leave that up to Jack when he got there. Since the shirtless part had been all his idea. For now, he took up a spot behind the bar and glared at the DJ. Not because he did anything yet, but just on principle.

Groovy Tunes, Thursday

Lottie had only just gotten back into town with Pepper this morning, her mother having insisted on keeping her home for most of the week. She wasn't coping well with her prematurely empty nest, as Lottie explained to her friends. But finally, Lottie's insistence that she had a job to get to, and her continuing wild tales about Fandom's strangeness, which were not so much unbelievable as just exhausting, had convinced her mum that it was time to send her on her way again.

Lottie decided to let Pepper choose the music for the day, in honor of it being his first day on the island. She roamed the stacks with him until he stopped, then scooped him up and held him over the albums to see which one he sniffed first. The result was some mid-90s German pop about teddybears.

"You have terrible taste, Pepper," Lottie said.

Pepper licked her nose.

Atticus was pretty sure there was a special place in at least two versions of hell for the people who designed hold music. That was the primary conclusion he'd managed to come to while waiting, and waiting, and waiting to speak with the handyman service whose number he had found tacked up at the main lobby desk. The good news was, his air conditioning was the only one that seemed to need fixing, but if he had to wait much longer to speak to anyone, he was going to choose to roast rather than fixing it. People liked a little sweat on guys, right?
