Maria was working, busy organizing a few of the displays that looked like they had been visited by people who didn't know what exactly they were looking for. She was fine with this as it allowed her to get a good look at the kinds of things people bought in the store so she could tell Jono if they started running low on anything.

The stereo was behind the counter playing operas of different kinds. Maria just left it alone.

The shop was quiet today, though Jones would occasionally come across a randomly placed banana on various bookshelves. She briefly wondered if Parley and Andrew were on the island and playing tricks on her again, but since there were no party hats involved she doubted that was the case.

By the end of the morning, she had a nice bowl of bananas on the counter for anyone needing potassium.

For whatever reason, Vic was feeling antsy hanging out in the office today. So she threw all her paperwork into a back and had commandeered a corner of the coffee shop to finish it. The staff wasn't too happy about it but Vic really didn't give a crap.

Right now however she was mostly ignoring the stacks of paperwork in front of her and was texting a few people back home. Given the way time past at home she doubted anyone would respond for weeks but after seeing so many people visit the island she was feeling a bit homesick.

That would probably change after any conversation with Walt.

Éponine walked into the post office to discover that someone, by which she was fairly certain she meant bored gremlins, had built an elaborate castle out of several stacks of advertising postcards.

"Absolutely not," she said out loud, because she could have sworn she heard some snickering from inside the card structure. "No, no, absolutely not, you take this down at once, it's absurd and in the way and I won't have it, d'you want me to knock it all over? I will, you see if I don't, and I don't care one bit how long you spent working on it. I won't spend all day creeping about so's to avoid knocking it over when it oughtn't be here in the first place."

There was no response from inside the card castle.

She sighed, and took a picture of it with her phone -- it really was quite impressive -- then left.

She'd come and knock the whole thing down in an hour, if they didn't. Or at least that was what she told herself.

If anyone asked, the glass of whisky York was carrying around today at work was iced tea. Just iced tea. Also the copy of Sports Illustrated he was reading was actually an inventory list.

He had no idea why he was making excuses in his head when he owned the place but he had them ready.

So yesterday's outing had not gone as planned. Pretty much the opposite, because Kathy was fucking nuts.

Which left Dante worried, and because he was worried, he was angry, and because he was angry, he needed some air.

"Not now," he growled at the cat, as it landed on his head. "Can you just-- What's the matter, kitty, not get your milk fix?"

The cat meowed in annoyance as it landed in his lap, sat down there, and stared up at him balefully. "...No, I don't have food today," he said. "All right? Scratch off."

But apparently the cat had decided it wasn't going anywhere. Dante sighed, reaching up and sliding the hood of his coat over his head.

Two days after Parents Weekend, there was a good chance people would be either fine by now, or still not fine. So.

50% OFF IF YOU'RE STILL TRAUMATIZED

Meanwhile, after the weekend's talk with Barney, Kitty was behind the bar flipping through a bridal magazine. Which was so much less terrifying than looking through massive checklists online, for the record.
