While the restaurant at the end of the causeway seemed worthy of exploration, Dani had spent the weekend at Pimlico racecourse. It was the first time she was able to attend a major stakes race since her racing ban was lifted. The weather could have been better for the Preakness, and it was disappointing to see the Kentucky Derby winner lose -- no Triple Crown this year. But Dani's handicapping skills were as sharp as ever, and she won big.

So her first order of business this morning was ordering new riding boots to replace her missing ones. Her second was to order new bridles, saddles, and other goodies for the horses. Her third was to put up a sign outside the barn entrance.

It was a quiet day at the front desk, so Mary was doing inventory of the hotel's linens. It seemed like a mindless task, but counting pillowcases was making the day go by a little faster. But it left Mary with a little bit of a quandary. According to her records, the hotel should have exactly 1,753 pillowcases. She counted three times and came up with 1,782 pillowcases with no idea where the extra 29 came from.

With a sigh, she divided the folded pillowcases into stacks and called Gunther over to the front desk. "How's your math, Gunther? I need you to count all these pillowcases and tell me if you got the same number as me."

Jones was currently reviewing a recent biography of Alexander Hamilton and was taking some mental notes of facts laid out in the book and what she remembered from her own observations of the events. For the most part the books were being quiet today with little mischievousness being performed if not at all.

Eliot was doing some fairly last minute experimenting to finish up the menu for Hannibal and Jono's wedding.

"Here." He held a piece of crusty bread out to one of the servers. "Tell me if this chutney has too much fennel."

The server leaned back away from his hand. "I'm pretty sure I'm allergic to chutney."

"Chutney's not an ingredient!"

"Then I'm allergic to fennel?"

Eliot growled under his breath. "Here," he said, thrusting the bread at the busboy instead. "Does this have too much fennel?"

"I don't eat carbs."

"Someone eat this and tell me if it has too much fennel before I fire all of you."

"Mmm," said the dishwasher. "Fennel."

The discussion in Music Appreciation had Hanna blasting the most upbeat music she could find in order to avoid falling into a morose spiral about violence and war. That was not going to be her future; so time to dance as she organized packages.

Some of the packages were singing back in high, silvery voices from inside bamboo crates. She really hoped whoever got those appreciated them.
