Mary grew up in Las Vegas. She got her start working in Las Vegas mega-resorts, and she knew that after spending several years in Fandom, she would probably not recognize the Las Vegas skyline anymore. The city's hotels and casinos were constantly being torn down and rebuilt with new names and new marketing gimmicks. She'd quit her job at the Montecito once right before the old hotel was imploded, only to be hired back by the new owners. She hadn't shed any tears over change.
Today, she was at the front desk reading about the news that New York City's
Waldorf Astoria hotel was closing to undergo a condo conversion. She was actually a lot more upset about it than she would have expected. She was frowning as she folded stacks of towels fresh from housekeeping, not even stopping to make any of her signature towel animals. She gave a halfhearted response to the head of housekeeping's questions and didn't even crack a smile when Gunther brought over her favorite sandwich for lunch. The only time she seemed to perk up was when Gunther found her a video of a
recent casino implosion. After all, nothing brought Las Vegas residents together like watching old casinos blow up.
