There was a pitched battle going on in the post office lobby this morning, between Éponine and the thermostat. Every time she'd turn it down to a reasonable, comfortable level, she'd get about ten seconds to enjoy it before the thermostat started ratcheting the temperature either up or down at a steady but rapid pace and she was swearing profusely and stomping back over to try to . . . poke it back into submission.

She could swear the beeping noises it was making sounded like laughter, too.

when Kitty got in today, Tino made a point of showing her a postcard he'd received from the squirrels, who had apparently been in Nebraska.

It was signed in squirrelly handwriting "Wish you were here!" which Kitty felt no one had ever said about Nebraska before.
