So, due to a handwavey "unicorn" related technicality, Summer had won a bet. A bet that would involve having dinner with another person, which had been her end game all along, which was all well and good when it was just an idea that seemed very nice to think about. Now that it came around to the fact that she'd actually have to go and ask someone, things got a lot more jumbled and flaily in her head.

Whatever. It was just asking someone out on a date, it shouldn't be that hard, she'd done it before, but that was usually after multiple confirmation from friends that it would be a guaranteed yes after frequent investigations and passed notes and just generally a lot of solid research into the matter and perhaps a little hype done on the side. This was like a whole different ballpark.

Whatever. Summer was just feeling glad that someone had brought in several boxes just filled with multiple miscellaneous and unmatching tea cups wrapped in newspaper for her to sort through and distract herself with at work today so she wouldn't just focus on getting more nervous and apprehensive. Just focus on the teacups for now, Summer. So. Many. Teacups.

Furnado Animal Shelter, Tuesday

So, once again, the puppy had a bunch of puppies out to play with. More or less. Actually, a little bit more of the day was spent trying to round them up again, because somebody figured he could wrestle with small dogs much more easily without setting up the puppy playpen again.

So, careful when you come in today, folks. You might get tackled.

"Whaddya mean, it's Free Squishy Day?"

It physically pained the Merchant of Miracles to say those words, but the issue needed to be addressed when Nahasapeemapedilon brought up this crazy notion that he claimed was tradition, but the Merhcant wasn't buying it. He didn't think he could support any tradition that resulted in him not making any money.

"Because it's Seven-Eleven? What does that have to do with anything? It's just numbers, it's just dates. Maybe, if it were to appease some sort of warlord or dragon or monster, maybe, but we're not throwing half our profits out the window just because it happens to be a certain combination of numbers that lie in conjunction with one calendar that most people in this kingdom follow. I mean, heck, is it Seven-Eleven on the Chinese Lunar calendar? The Russian Orthodox calendar? No? Let's not be so disrespectful to other people's cultures, Nahasapeemapedilon! How do you think they'd feel?"

Apu was pretty sure they'd feel happy to have a free Squishy, but he had learned pretty quickly that it was pointless to argue with the Merchant. Sighing, he went to put the Free Squishy sign back into storage, where it would probably forever collect dust from here on in.

Covent Garden Flowers, Tuesday

Some of the flowers were looking a little listless today. Nathan really couldn't figure out why, at least until he found a small potted hens and chicks plant sitting sadly by a note about National Chicken Wing Day.

He decided he really didn't want to know, and set to work pinching the deadheads off of the hanging flower arrangements instead of worrying about it too much.

The last of the items Kathy had hauled out for Pride were put away and her remaining bracelets were still in a bin by the register. She was selling them for fifty cents apiece, all the proceeds to be donated to the Los Angeles LGBT center. They had been cheap and easy to make and Kathy liked the idea of helping out an LA institution. At least there'd be one LA where her contributions were only positive.

Thinking about LA had left her melancholy, so she was practicing making more of Eliot's complicated friendship bracelets behind the counter. It was still new enough that her brain couldn't wander down familiar paths too much before she had to bring her attention back to what she was doing with her hands. Hopefully by the end of her shift, she'd be able to kick her moroseness completely, but until then:

Friendship bracelets.

Kitty had missed all the Pride stuff this weekend, but who said she couldn't still be on theme? So she and Toni were experimenting with making drinks in every color of the rainbow, and had them set out on the bar as they came up with something good.

Ask for the purple. Tino made it so Kitty couldn't tell you what was in it, but it was yummy.

The stereo was playing a mix of late nineties pop rock. Raven was vaguely appalled.

"Really?" she said, after the fourth song. "Why do I get the feeling these were only really listened to by teen douchebags?"

The stereo obliged by playing another song.

"Well. At least this one is about lesbians." Raven looked up the song on her phone. "Or not."

She was glad she'd skipped the '90s.
