in_sidon_we_trust: (whaaaat?)

Sidon rather enjoyed being around all the animals at the shelter, and he particularly liked the birds, few as they were, who would let out friendly little chirps and squawks throughout the day, sometimes musical little trills that made him smile when he heard them. But today...today, all those noisy little feathered friends had really outdone themselves. He wasn't sure what it is, but all those twitterings turned into a beautiful, rousing, incredible song the likes of which he'd never heard before. It was magnificent!

...the first five times, anyway. But when the birds kept repeating the Carol of the Bells over and over and over, the thrilling serenade was quickly losing its charm.

"Yes, yes, my sweet avian friends, your music today is quite lovely, but perhaps you might consider a break? Wouldn't want you to wear out your voices? Please, just a few moments of--"

As he spoke, they appeared to heed his words and stopped. Sidon breathed out a sigh of relief, soaking in the silence...

Before they started up again, and, despite his best effort to remain calm, let out a frustrated cry, clenched fists, his temper on the brim. A displeased yowl from one of the cats brought him back though, sympathetic and agreeing, and he breathed out again.

"Now, now, kitty, I know it would be very easy to just eat them and be finished with it and have very happy bellies and blissfully free ears, but that is no way to solve a problem that...patience...extreme, dedicated, strenuous patience...will take care of in due time."

What was worse was that after he'd left the shelter, he would be the one singing it under his breath as the blasted thing wouldn't leave his brain.

Ever since the disaster of the movie night that hadn't been a sinking ship, Seivarden har done her best to avoid her roommate. So here she was at the tea house that was really a coffee house, drinking decent tea and looking out the window.

It was boring, despite the tea. At least it had been easier to order this time, for which she was grateful to Sparkle, even though there still had been some mutual glaring between her and the barista.

The tea was decent, she reminded herself, again and again. At the last place she remembered staying it had been almost undrinkable.

But why were they playing that horrible song on repeat?

The trouble with a magical effect working on "everything that makes noise" was that that included rather a lot of things. Antique telephones, for instance. (Or modern ones, but those at least had volume controls.) Also cash registers, door chimes, and a surprisingly large number of minor magical items, such as singing stones and bowls and talking drums.

Which all added up to quite the cacophony in the Magic Box today.

"If you can't sing it in the original Ukranian, you might as well not sing it at all," Jenkins grumbled as he worked to put together some sort of silencing device to save both his ears and his sanity. "Gretchen used to sing this so beautifully. . . . Remind me to call her when all this noise is done with. See how Santa's preparations are going this year." He looked up and around the shop. "Not that there's anyone here to actually give me that reminder." He sighed and returned to his work.

"Used to spend entire decades alone, Jenkins, old man. You're getting soft."
