The rowboat came drifting on back early on Tuesday morning. Edward, characteristically late with his sleeping, didn't find out until it was nearly noon.

"And Tom's nowhere to be found, is he?" Ed leaned over the portside edge of the ship, squinting at the boat as it bobbed on the water. "That's either a promising start, or the beginning of something terrible."

He didn't need to sound so merry about it.

"Anyone else want to try this next?"

He leaned back and eyed the crew. There was a fair bit of head-shaking. "Ah, you lilly-livered bastards," Edward said. "This whimpering's the best we can do?"

"Maybe Tom'll come back," Grim posited. "We haven't given him no time to do it."

Of course. Edward heaved a mighty sigh. "Well, at least get your Captain a bottle of something, aye?" He pulled away from the side and followed the lines of the ship all the way up to the bow proper. He sat down there - a bottle of something he suspected was rum was deposited in his hand - and eyed the docks and the island before him.

"A mystery, indeed."

When Astrid came into the shop today, everything seemed...normal. The snapdragons didn't try to bite her as she passed by, the tiger lilies didn't roar, the baby's breath didn't let out their little sighs faintly scented with Gerber and milk. And after yesterday's class where she just got to enjoy floating around, one of the things she missed most about home, she was feeling a little uneasy about the whole thing.

Things were going to get really weird soon, weren't they? Or maybe this place was doing its thing and developing in her a new sense of paranoia for every average turn of events.

Either way, she was going to take the opportunity the sketch some of the flowers that were more prone to weirdness on most other days while she had the chance.

Today, the Magic Box seemed to be all about card tricks.

One card was demonstrating its prowess on the tightrope. Another had procured a tiny motorcycle and was going to attempt a leap through a burning ring of death. Then there was the one who had found a card-sized whip and was attempting to keep the last of last week's monkeys at bay like some kind of scaled-down lion taming act.

Norman was just staring at the whole thing in quietly stunned silence.

Not much work was going to get done today.

It was actually a pretty quiet day at Furnado. The whole toad-egg debacle having been resolved last week meant that this week, there was no great mystery for Zack to step in and solve. It was just puppies and kittens and tiny bunnies all the way down.

Which was a nice way to spend the day, admittedly. The first little bit of his morning was spent setting up playpens in the shop and then moving puppies, kittens, and bunnies from the kennels into the appropriate ones. At least partly because it was easier for any potential people looking to adopt to see them this way, and mostly because it was easier for Zack to park himself beside them to play with the cute fluffy babies himself.

It wasn't SOLDIER work, but overall it was still a pretty good gig, if you asked him.

The Perk - Tuesday

The morning after the night before, as t'were, Kaidan went to the Perk. He had a small daypack with him, carrying a post-it covered children's book, a pad of paper, and some writing instruments. It also contained a pair of padded gloves and a mouthguard. His hands were bruised across the back, knuckles scraped, and the nails were painted bright pink with purple glitter, though several of them were badly chipped. One side of his jaw looked a little darker than the other, but it was hard to tell under the perma-5 o'clock shadow, especially when he'd skipped depilating his face that morning.

A quiet, polite order saw him with an entire teapot of tea and a steaming mug. He tipped the baristas and set up camp at one of the tables. Pulling out the notepad, he began writing words and phrases in a language that was definitely not English. Occasionally, Kaidan would reference the children's book for a moment before continuing.

Today class was simply Hannibal, at the front of the room, with a refrigerator of simple ingredients and an expectant look.

"Welcome back," he said. "Now that introductions have been made, I hope you are all ready to begin. Please present to me whatever you've brought for me to incorporate into a meal."

He nodded to the first person.

Kitty had months to go still here, and she worked one job that involved being on her feet all night.

So she'd invested in a tall stool on wheels that she could sit on and use to slide around behind the bar. Was it necessary? Absolutely not! But it was fun, so she was keeping it.

Holosuite One had apparently decided to get itself stuck on some mid-century nightclub program. Raven spent about ten minutes trying to fix it before just giving up and deciding to roll with it.

She looked cute in a bowtie.

The costume rental was full of color-blocked minidresses and fedoras, and Raven had some miscellaneous gaming guides up front for those who wanted to gamble but weren't familiar with mid-20th century Earth games. The sounds of lounge jazz coming from the open holosuite door had Raven tapping the feet she had propped against the check-in counter.

Seriously, why were all of Quark's leftover programs obsessed with the 60s? At least it wasn't Nazis, this time. . . .

Special today: golden age of Vegas, baby!
Play some games and see a show! Or get up on stage and be the show yourself!

Seivarden listened to he radio, so she knew about the current tea obsession. It irritated her, and it was ridiculous, but at least the tea she had bought from Amaya was good, and that had cheered her up a little. She had brought a thermos to the park - it wasn't the same as freshly made of course, but it was acceptable - and kept an eye on Issa, who was hiding under a bush, spying on the ducks.

At least the cat hadn't been trying to climb any trees so far. Seivarden wasn't in any mood to go and get the useless troopers today.

Mitsutada was quite happy with how his first class had went. Sayo was a bit... intense, at times, but Sayo was also still a good and warm person (even with his insatiable desire for revenge). This week would prove its own hurdle, as the wakizashi that was coming was... particular.

Hopefully none of his students had problems with ghost stories.

So, with only a minimum level of distraction, Mitsutada put together a rather simple specials board:

Today's Specials
Hamburger with Fries
Fry Bits
Onigiri

Even if most of the patients he got were remarkably boring for Fandom, Hannibal still lived in hope of something or someone interesting. Other than Deadpool. So, the coffee and hot water for tea were ready, there were small pastries and light classical music, and he was trolling message boards ready for anyone who might show up.

Fandom Counseling was open and the doctor was in!
