Covent Garden Flowers; Tuesday [08/21].

Astrid was tired; she hadn't slept well again last night, haunted by more nightmares reminiscent of whatever happened in the woods. She just hoped that whatever she was doing in her sleep that left her so exhausted every morning hadn't also been bothering her roommate, but that was why she was generally avoiding their room if she could help it. But she didn't want to go into the woods again, either, so it was a lot of time out on the beach, up on the roof, even down at the pool, staring at the ceiling, wishing it were sky.

And here, work, where she didn't suspect she'd get much work done at all, but it was a place to be, and she was drawing again, which she hadn't done much of since that weekend, even if it was just sort of filling in space, coating the paper with different shades of lead, different depths of darkness, something mindless to keep her hands moving and her brain dulled.

She could shake herself out of it enough to help anyone if they came in, but no one ever came in, so it didn't really matter.

Furnado Animal Shelter, Tuesday

Zack came into the shelter today to find the vet already enthralled with their newest arrival. She was crouched over a terrarium setup, cooing and dropping little pieces of her peanut butter toast in for the creature living inside.

Zack leaned over to peer in, frowning a bit. The dumpy little gray-skinned creature didn't look like much to him, but the vet assured him that it was a very special little critter, even breaking into a fit of childish giggles as it plodded across the terrarium and waded into the little water bowl that she'd set up in there.

"Well, okay, if you think it's so great..."

The vet informed him that if nobody adopted the thing by the end of the day, she was taking it home.

After all, how often did anybody get a chance to bring home a North American House Hippo?

The Magic Box, Tuesday

Norman came to work, once again, pretty much braced for anything. Working here kind of had that way about it, after all, and seeing as he was generally already pretty used to the unusual anyway, it wasn't too much of a stretch to wrap his head around working in a shop that randomly turned him into weird animals or occasionally got in shipments of live monkeys instead of just the paws.

Not that he'd ordered the paws that one time, either.

Today's little bit of Magic Box whimsy wasn't even immediately apparent until Norman started cleaning. Every time he ran a broom or a cloth over a surface, the counter or floor that he'd just touched would glow bright blue for a second, and then put off a little burst of bubbles that would drift around the room and then pop after a few moments. Overall, the effect was harmless and actually kind of pretty, and turned out to be a pretty good incentive to keep cleaning the place up just that little bit more thoroughly than usual.

Tino was now cleaning up glass from the floor while Kitty wiped up the bar. And glared.

He wisely didn't try to defend it.
