Miguel was in a mood to cook today, which was fortunate. The entire staff seemed to be groundhogs.

He came in, took one look at the groundhog in the bus bin, the ground hog with a water sprayer and wet fur, and the groundhog with singed fur, and sighed. "Move over," he told the one he assumed was the cook. "Go...see if you can make coffee. I'll get started on food." It looked like it wanted to argue. "No fire without fully opposable thumbs!" he snapped.

The surly groundhog went to try and make coffee.

It was bad enough that Tiny still wore a wife-beater, even as a groundhog tonight, but when the DJ showed up and started chewing on the wires instead of playing music like a stupid, stupid groundhog (which he was, but still. Wires. Chewing. Stop that.), Eric tossed him out into the cold (literally. He flew pretty far) and set up behind the bar himself.

Like some kind of service worker. The horror.

So you had a cranky, cranky vampire serving you drinks tonight. On the bright side, there wasn't any music this time?

Groovy Tunes, Saturday

Groovy Tunes had a groundhog choir. Breq wasn't going to comment on their signing, and let them carry on while she unpacked some boxes and dusted the shelves, occasionally humming along. It wasn't a bad tune, just a little, well, out of tune.

By the afternoon it was getting annoying, and she tried to scare them away by turning on loud, aggressive music on the stereo, but they paid no attention. Breq finally resorted to earplugs.

Covent Garden Flowers, Saturday

Seivarden was making flower arrangements. They were colourful and elegant, proof that she had at least learnt something during her time here. Not that she would be likely to ever have much use of this skill unless she retired on some planet with a pleasant climate and beautiful flower gardens, but considering her situation at home that was unlikely to happen, even if she managed to return.

This was one reason why making flower arrangements was good. It demanded concentration and offered distraction, making it hard to think about that home was only a slight improvement from here.
