Steve had harragued bullied persuaded the Troopers into going on a long run around the island, and so they were punishing him by pretending not to hear the phone when it rang. Steve had already dealt with Bee Lady four times and now was on the phone with another person who was obviously and completely around the bend:

"You saw raccoons stripping a rickshaw down for parts," he repeated dubiously. "Right. Right. We'll be sure to look into that."

The Trooper Station was open, and apparently hot on the trail of evil rickshaw thieves?

Devil's Nest, Monday Evening

Annie had been warned it would be a quiet week, and honestly, that kind of worked out for her since she could still use some practice before getting...you know, real customers who might care about what they drank.

"Look!" she said excitedly, holding up a beer to show to Tiny. "Look, no head again! I think I'm getting the hang of it!"

She set it on the bar in line with the other half-dozen beers she'd poured, all with varying amounts of foam.

Annie had no intention of drinking any of them, of course. Gross. It was just practice beer.
