Of course it had to massively snow-dump on the island (with lovely little attacking candy canes) on the day when Summer wasn't working at her job that was literally across the street from where she lived. Nooooooo. It had to massively snow-dump on the island (with lovely little attacking candy canes) on the day she worked practically across half the island! Ugh!

Needless to say, then, Summer's time at the store that day was spent a little less on her usual orders and a little more on helping Apu drag out all of the winter stuff from the back room and get that all stocked, at one point stopping for a moment to look around at the changes and stating, "We probably could have been better prepared for this..."

Oh, well. It was getting done and, knowing this place, it'll probably be about a week of heavy snow or something, followed by some weird attacking snow monster or something, and then back to a more mild winter like they'd had last time. And it wasn't like the store was every lacking in stuff that might be needed, it was just a matter of getting it all out.

And today was one of those days where Rosa was reveling in her own genius about living in the space above where you worked (as if this concept was new and revolutionary and not at all what about half the adult population on this island did), because there was a ton of snow outside and she barely had to deal with it beyond moving from upstairs to downstairs.

And she suspected that might be something else going on that day, too, as, in the brief time it took for her to get from apartment to office, she could swear she head a faintly troubling sound in the distance that she wondered if she should be looking into, but...naaaaah.

Whatever it was was hopefully more of a troopers things...

...at least until afternoon when she got at least a couple of concerned calls about missing people, only to then have the person call back a few moments later to inform her that, never mind, they just found them facedown and struggling to get out of a snowbank.

So that was easy.

Initially, Annie had been pretty irritated to have to haul her snow boots and her big thick socks and her mittens out of the back of her closet already, because usually big snowstorms didn't hit until after Christmas, but at least it was pretty, and at least she had winter stuff.

More annoying still, though, was how she had to remove those mittens to blast three different...attacking candy canes in the snow on her way into work today, and it had actually been a little scary when one of them successfully snagged her by the ankle and attempted to drag her into a snowbank. It was weird enough to be blasting that much stuff, particularly in civilian clothes (particularly such unflattering civilian clothes), though it was also pretty good practice since they were fast little targets.

Annie was pretty proud of herself for overcoming these annoyances to still haul in the last inflatable reindeer, which she bustled into the back very quickly. She emerged, holding a finger up to her lips at Tiny in warning, and settled behind the bar to look up warm drink recipes. Maybe she could figure out some kind of boozy hot chocolate situation, because it wasn't going to be that long before she had to head back out into the stupidly deep snow.

Seivarden had followed Summer's advice to watch YouTube videos in order to learn how to mix drinks, so she now had one more on her repertoire. Tino gave her an unimpressed look.

"At least I serve people drinks, unlike some of my colleagues."

This wasn't a criticism of Cait, Seivarden actually thought it was a smart move.

Today's Specials:
Margarita
Gin & Tonic
Bottled beer

Perhaps she would eventually remove the bottled beer from the list, but it was such an easy job to serve them. Any draft beers would be from Tino, unless the customer liked foam.

The clouds rolled in sometime during the night. They hung there, grey and unmoving, for an hour or two before the snow started.

But then: boy, how it started to snow.

It covered the rooftops and the ground, left a thick blanket across the park and mixed with the sand on the beach until nothing was left but white.

And... red?

The candy cane shoved its... head... up through the snow on the beach... and started moving.

The sun came up.

Stark did not, as a general rule, enjoy the cold or the snow. But he couldn't exactly avoid either without moving somewhere with a warmer climate and he had no interest in doing that.

He had put on his ridiculous coat that had luckily not been lost while he was away from Fandom this last time and headed outside in spite of the weather because, well, he wanted to get something to eat. He really should have put on a hat because once he got outside there was a brief dusting of powdered sugar that landed on his head and he found himself forgetting that he disliked the snow and just thinking it was pretty and sparkly and maybe walking off into it was a good idea!

Walking off into the snow was not, of course, a good idea at this time. The candy canes were lurking, and he hadn't noticed them. Even if he had, the complete lack of peripheral vision on his right side presented a problem for him and an opportunity for the candy canes. Naturally, the candy canes took the opportunity and one hooked itself around Stark's leg and yanked. Stark, being completely unprepared for this, yelped and fell backward into the snowdrift. He flailed, sputtered, and eventually got to his feet.

He spun around once, warily eyeing the snow and the hints of red that he know noticed in it, and tried to shake the snow clinging to his coat off as he moved back onto ground that had been shoveled. That seemed safer. And warmer.

Maybe coming outside hadn't been a good idea after all.
