Weeks had gone by, a month, in fact, almost, and still no call back from Susan, to let Astrid know about when she might see her mother. Now that she'd won Astrid's complicity, there was no rush. Now that Astrid had agreed to consider cooperating, they knew the ball was in their court, they had the next play, and it was all part of the game to drag it out. It wasn't very smart of them, Astrid felt; she could just as easily get fed up with waiting and change her mind. But no one knew her like her mother did. Ingrid knew exactly what she was doing to her.

So she was trying not to think about it, trying to focus instead on graduation coming up, and what that meant for her with Sabine probably leaving, and with a new batch of students hopefully coming in the summer (barring any kidnappings, anyway), and what it would mean that she would actually be a senior soon, and how long ago it felt that she herself was a wide-eyed freshman wandering into this place after her whole world had changed three summers ago, and even though her stay here hadn't been consistent, it had definitely been all-encompassing...

Thankfully, Apu was celebrating German Beer Day today, which meant putting all German beers on special and needing to create some eye-catching displays for it, so distraction did come in the shape of her helping to make the displays a little more artistic and appealing.

All the while feeling very glad he went with this random fake holiday and not International Nose Picking Day.

Amaya had come into the possession of some very nice amber that week, which seemed a shame to just let go to waste, so today was the culmination of a new sword she'd been working on where the hilt was definitely the focal point, and the use of the firey stone for it would be a nicely eye-catching detail, she felt.

It also meant a lot of detail work today as she finished it up, which was not a bad way to spend a day at all, especially when she really hadn't been spending as much time as she used on the really fancy stuff.

Maybe because there's hadn't been much of a market, lately, for the fancy stuff, but at least she could enjoy making them, even if no one in particular was buying these days.

The Forge is open!

Rey's warehouse- Friday afternoon

Rey was waiting dutifully outside the warehouse, leaning on the door with the lightsaber burn in it until Anakin showed up. There were some changes to the course today that she was pretty excited to see, but she didn't want to see it too early and give herself a chance to figure it out before running it. (Maybe Leia's sink-or-swim method had gotten through to her.)

So don't mind her, just hanging out for the moment.

Other than the complaints about air pollution that started pouring in after a certain fire started, yes. But as Travis seemed to have the actual fire well in hand, there really wasn’t much Liam could do other than point out that where there’s fire, there’s smoke.

The Devil's Nest, Friday Night

Last week had not been a disaster. Lucifer had almost given up hope that there was such a thing as multiple days that were not a disaster, but here they were, well into the week and no disaster had yet occurred.

He shooed Tiny away from the specials board and wrote down 40% OFF ON THE BALBOA COCKTAIL AND ANY DRINK YOU CAN NAME THAT SOUNDS BEACHY.

Then he skedaddled to the piano, where for the first time in ages, he fell back into his usual repertoire.

Times felt good right now, and he was going to cling to that feeling as long as he possibly could.

The Perk, Friday Morning

Bucky had skipped town during the island's pollen assault after it had clearly started getting even to him. And then he'd caught a lead, and had been chasing it for the past two weeks since.

But now he was back.

And the sliver of comfort that came to him just by stepping off the causeway and looking up to see the castle looming over everything... Well, it was a weird thing, no matter how small it was. And maybe it was that weird thing that got him to stop by the Perk on his way to the MCA.

He wasn't going to stay for long. Just for however long it took to finish this cup of coffee. By a table that had the most comprehensive view of the whole place and was near the door for a quick getaway.

Hey, the narrative had said it was a sliver of comfort.
