lilac_eyed_lieutenant: (disgruntled look up)

Miraculously, somehow, the path Tisarwat needed to take to get from her apartment to her business was surprisingly clear of anything alarming that might dissuade her from actually going into work today, though the presence of another dome and the ash falling from the sky was a bit...disconcerting. But after spending pretty much all day yesterday basically feeling too inadequate or depressed to even make herself tea, she figured she really should try to pull her shit together and do something.

Even if that something, apparently, ended up being curled up at the counter, clutching the tea she finally did make, and staring worriedly at the vents because this definitely felt like the sort of day when that headphone cord monster in the basement would attack. She told herself it was good she was here, then, to protect the place, but she failed to be convinced that it would actually do any good.

Maybe she better finally take that trip home after all.

...which meant that things were about to get much worse for Tisarwat once she discovered that she actually couldn't get home, and could only assume that either Seivarden had lied, Breq had changed her mind, or that she was essentially actually trapped here for probably four years like they had been, or perhaps she was trapped here for eternity and the prospect of going home had only been a false hope.

Tisarwat ducked her head, trying not to cry. There was no way things could possibly get worse...

Aatr's tits, she prayed things couldn't possibly get worse!

Well, the island was doing its thing again, and Sabine was more than a little irritated at the timing. This was her last week! She had a whole warehouse to pack up! People to say goodbye to! What she didn't want to be doing was have to fight off whatever was making ash rain from the sky.

Regardless, it was happening, so she and Lana decided to do a little patrol and check things out. At least armed dates made sense for this place.

"So this is creepy," Sabine said conversationally, catching sight of the mirrors lining the street.

So much fear and paranoia; so much power to feed on. The crystal had soaked it in all day, extending its vines ever further into the castle tower.

Its thorns dug into the stone. Into the very fabric of the island itself. Something within answered, alarmed-- and a large protective dome shot up all around the island, cutting off access to the causeway and violently yanking this hub out of the multiversal network.

Ash began to drift down from the sky.

The crystal traced its roots through the stone, into the earth, and... changed things.

[[ see your full list of changes here. the island is now cut off from multiverse travel. eta: for clarity, the dome prevents travel to the mainland or multiverse, it doesn't restrict communications ]]

Caritas- Tuesday

There were two reasons Kitty came to work tonight: because she wasn't sure if people would want/need someplace with a sanctuary spell, and because anyone who was out might want to stop in. In this town that meant it'd either be dead tonight or very busy.

Kitty hadn't run into anything between her house and the bar, but Tino called out, with some message about trolls? So he was apparently having a great day.

Caritas was open, but Kitty got it if you had other things to do today.

Travis had spent most of yesterday and a good chunk of the night making sure the fire station was as prepped as it could be to absolutely any disaster he could imagine. Earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanoes, even an asteroid strike. He had at least a week's worth of fuel for the generator and vehicles, dry goods and potable water to support up to fifty people through next Monday, sand bags, first aid supplies, epipens, antibiotics, insulin, saline, loads of warm blankets, sunscreen, chemical heat- and coldpacks, bug spray, oxygen tanks and masks, and a hell of a lot of spare fire extinguishers. He was, he believed, as prepared as he could be.

When the ash started to fall from the sky, he stepped out, holding a cloth over his nose and mouth, and scanned the horizon, assuming the volcano he was sure he'd heard rumors about had started to erupt.

Instead, there was some sort of...eerie purple glow coming from the rocky bits across from the station.

"Aliens," he muttered. "I definitely am not prepared for an alien invasion."

Still, never let it be said that anyone from Station 19 in Seattle let nerves keep them from investigating anywhere they could possibly help. He headed across the street, ignoring the mounting dread in his belly, and poked one of the glowing rocks with a stick.

"That's just not right."

[OOOOPEEEEEN! Did you know that Travis canonically gets arrested for assault after an angry bar fight? YOU DO NOW. Come discover the rage-making rocks with him, I dare you]

You know, the stretch of about a year there where she didn't feel constantly paranoid someone was watching her and something was going to happen? That had been nice, Jesse reflected. Felt like a distant dream now.

Especially after walking through the park this morning and hearing... giggles. Coming from somewhere, making her want to do... something.

She wasn't proud about falling back into old habits, but... as soon as she made it back to Town Hall, she vanished into her office and locked the door. She'd just ignore her assistant's pounding on the door while she poured through reports. Yeah.

Monday had been filled with that nagging sense of dread, and then yesterday everything had gone to hell in a handbasket. In Liam’s experience, sudden drastic changes to island geography were almost never good news (that one time with the anthropomorphic animals being the exception). So he’d spent most of last night- and this morning- patrolling the island, looking for something to stab or shoot at or whatever.

Unfortunately for Liam, he didn’t think to look down, and so missed the hands reaching out from the bushes lining the street. Unfortunate because the hands didn’t miss, grabbing at his ankles and pulling him closer until there were hands everywhere, holding him down-

He twisted in their grasp, struggling for a few moments before he finally managed to wrench himself free, scrabbling backwards across the pavement until he was a safe enough distance from the goddamn grabby hands.

Don’t mind Liam, he was just going to sit-sprawl here for a moment and try to catch his breath for a moment, okay?

[ooc: so very open!]
