Astrid was well used to singing flowers by now, of course. Singing dolls, now, apparently seemed like the stranger thing, especially when those dolls were in a flower shop and singing in a language she didn't really understand.

They were cute, though, and she made seasonal flower crowns of poinsettias and holly and pine for them to fit the holidays, while trying to figure out exactly what language it was. She knew a few of them, not fluently, no, but enough to recognize when she heard it, and ultimately, she managed to narrow it down to probably being Korean, which made her efforts to finally get around to trying to translate it a particularly interesting matter, but she was definitely using her phone to its full capacity in that respect, with more marveling at the wonders of early 21st century technology.

She'd gotten so used to her phone that that would be the hardest thing to go back to, but she figured it would be a great time to invest in tech stocks.

Of course, that was the last thing on her mind once the translation came back and she blinked, half wondering if something had been lost in translation, but if that was true?

....was it bad that she wanted to sell them to parents in particular now?

As far as random holidays went, National Christmas Lights Day seemed pretty innocuous, especially since they would likely have decorated accordingly anyway. It was a retail store, and it was Christmas, it might actually be required by law.

But it seemed that Apu had chosen to take things to a different level, because, in addition to the more traditional colorful strings draped here and there and everywhere (and, a little awkwardly, even on the giant menorah), he'd also gotten a few strings to invoke the various personalities at the store: cheese lights for the panda, cherry blossoms for Shunsui himself, red Solo cups for Summer, and some elephants for himself.

Which left Shunsui to wonder if he should point out that there seemed to be a stark omission in his decorations, as well as the fact that, really, you could argue that these weren't really Christmas lights at this point at all...

...but it wasn't really worth it, and now the store looked pretty and glowy and it kept Apu-san busy, so he was content to just let it slide and nap and drink at the sakura-adorned front counter without a word.

Summer maybe spent five minutes listening to one of the dolls on the bar that Tino was apparently very excited about before she was going to pull a big fat veto.

"Nope," she said. "No way. They're going in the back room, all of them. I don't care if you think they're cute, they're actually creepy, and I have been through waaaaay too much crap to ever trust something that cute speaking in a language I can't understand. That always ends up badly."

He tried making a appeal that if that were the case, weren't they better out here where they could keep an eye on them>?

"Absolutely not," Summer insisted. "They're much better contained in a singlular place until they disappear tomorrow because it's December, and, oh god help us all if they're going to be cumulative, but if that's the case, then it's the next bartender's problem."

So the creepy-cute dolls were all shephered in an indecipherable babble to the back room, where Summer would ponder going over Caritas' insurance policy regarding fire and whether Kitty would feel burning down the entire back room was a necessary step in this case.

God, she really hoped they wouldn't wind up, like, summoning Christmas demons or something back there...

With the holiday come and gone, Irene had swapped her incredibly tasteful thank you Thanksgiving display in favor of an array of winter-holiday-themed goodies. There was of course the Christmas tree with the filthy gingerbread people, but she'd also tracked down a rather dirty-looking Kinara and a suggestive Menorah. Inclusive.

And given that it was the fourth night of Hanukkah, she felt a nice display of massage oils might be appropriate, too. Maybe? Appropriate-adjacent?

Illyana had a... complicated relationship with children's toys. Namely, that she had spent most of her childhood in a hell dimension, where nothing cute or adorable was to be trusted.

So the doll that had shown up in her room today had been given a wide berth and ignored. But then there'd been more dolls at the store, and they were all singing.

This was obviously demonic torture of some sort, an opinion that Illyana only doubled-down on once she got her phone to translate what, exactly, the little creatures were singing.

Every time a new one popped up, 'Yana would punt it into a portal to Limbo with a flick of her fingers, and go on with her tarot readings.

If the island was going to throw more Officially Weird Shit at her this week, she wanted to be prepared.

The Magic Box was open. Mind the singing toys.

Jo was very confused about the singing dolls that the Baristas had brought into the Perk that day, no one seemed to know what language was being said and then one of the Baristas decided to use her phone to translate and the result was not what anyone was expecting.

“Oh,” Jo went red when she saw what the translation was, “that’s rather rude, this is meant to be a children’s toy?”

Apparently even toys had progressed quite a bit since the 1950s, still even a rude singing toy wasn’t enough to stop Jo having her normal hot cocoa after classes so she took her usual window seat and tried not to think too much about the singing dolls.
