Apocalypse Avenue, Across from Cafe Fina (Saturday Morning)
Saturday, July 8th, 2006 08:00 amThe quiet morning air stirred, as from nowhere a caucophony of noise rattled and clang. A blue flashing light, attached to a large blue box materialized from the ether, solidifying and landing with a slight clunk as the noise and flashing stopped. To those of a more classic British era, the object would be known as a police box.
To anyone who had been in the park for a great deal of the previous school year, the object would have been known as the TARDIS. The two inward-opening doors swung back, and out stepped a six foot tall man in a leather jacket. He had a lawn chair and newspaper tucked under one arm, with a thermos haphazardly clutched in that hand as well. With his free hand, he closed the doors to the TARDIS, and made sure they were securely locked. He then set down the newspaper and thermos for a moment, set up his chair, and sat down. Off came the lid of the thermos, and the man began sipping his tea, inbetween reading pages of his newspaper.
Anyone passing by might spy that his newspaper was in Mandarin. Anyone passing by who understood Mandarin might spy that it was tommorow's newspaper.
