Mary usually didn't have anyone working at the front desk on Sunday. Still, the first day of classes was tomorrow and while no one had made any reservations, there was a chance that someone would arrive late and need temporary or permanent lodging.

Gunther, however, insisted on having his day off. There were no specials today, but Mary could definitely scrounge up some sandwiches and there was a pitcher of iced tea at the front desk.

[Open. SP until 7 PM EDT.]

As promised, Anders swung by Troy's room early (still no dice on the bright part) for their agreed-upon morning run. They set out from the school after a oh so handwavey bout of warmup in pursuit of that oh-so-jockly goal of physical fitness.

"Just so you know," Anders told him, "it's been a while since I really did a serious run."

He so wasn't even going to address what the radio seemed to think this was, because come on now.

[OOC: For [livejournal.com profile] oncourtandstage primarily, but hey, if you want to encounter the boys somewhere in town . . .]

Joanna had gotten to Wonders early on Sunday. There was something she had wanted to try for a while now and simply hadn't had the opportunity. So before the gates were open, she grabbed a big silver key from the ticket booth and made a beeline to the go-kart track.

A passerby might have heard shrieks of delight and much laughter. It was, of course, the usual stern-faced Joanna that opened the gates for business just a few minutes later.

There was a large sign next to the ticket booth that read:

Wonders of the World
Miniature Golf and Go-Karts
Now Hiring Capable Employees
Unrivaled Benefits and Pay

[ooc: Please to be waiting for the OCD. Is up!!!]

When Turtle came in to open the store today, she put up two very important, very large, very glitter-accented signs in the windows.

One read:
NOW HIRING!
Good, competent workers, for weekends and Monday shifts.
Great employee benefits, including discounts on merchandise
AND FREE SQUISHIES!
Inquire within!

The other was a bit more important:
NEW STUDENT SPECIAL!
A whopping 70% off on school supplies, dorm supplies, and groceries
for ALL new students!
Great Savings, always at Turtle & Canary!

Satisfied with her signage, Turtle settled in for a day of hopefully meeting some of the new kids and then working out how to track down her little brother later. She must have just missed him at the picnic yesterday.

Today's Squishy flavors: Fresh Meat, Red, Blue.

Turtle & Canary is open!

There was actually a special on the board today. That customers could see. No, A.J. wasn't sick. He was just mostly too busy still trying to get paint from underneath his fingernails after that piece he worked on over on the roof on Friday. He put up the special, gave the board a cool zig-zaggy type of border, and then set to the task that showed that, while A.J. had a lot of experience working in the service industry, it definitely wasn't the food service industry.

Today's Special
HOMESICKNESS SPECIAL
Peanut butter and jelly sandwich (optional crusts cut off)
With a side of mac'n'cheese and lima beans you won't eat.
Topped off with a tall glass of cold milk.

It might be a bit early to ride the homesickness wave, but, then again, A.J. knew from experience that even just the first day at Fandom is...one hell of a first day.

Luke's is open.

Kabuto was personally very glad that he hadn't been assigned a roommate, and he managed to keep that good mood as he opened the bar that night. With the new students around, he did check to make sure that everything was very, very clean. This included Musubi, who took offense to the critical study. Thankfully, he was able to calm her down enough to serve drinks without threatening people - he hoped, anyway.

Andrew was taking a little stroll through the park when he came upon something unsettling.

He had been daydreaming about a certain someone, so he totally didn't notice the patch of scorched grass till he was standing in the middle of it. There was also a very distinctive odor in the air -- one he had no trouble recognizing.

"Sulfur? Fire?"

He began to walk backwards, out of the burnt area. "It wasn't me," he stated, wondering if he should run tell someone what he had found.

[ooc: Just for kicks in an establishy way. The park is open though!]

Leo had the sign up in the window again, and put some classic Rock on the stereo.

"Let the midnight special, shine the light on me..."

The sign in the window said "HELP WANTED".

Robin was still excited about all the new students, it was in that vein that he opened the shop.

"Consider yourself, at home." he was singing. "Consider yourself, one of the the family."

The Magic Box was open for all of your magicky needs.

While down at the beach on vacation, Wilson had made a decision to up his exercise a bit in an effort to raise his own fitness level, so that the next time he got hauled off to a spiritual mountain range he would be in better shape for all that climbing.

He'd considered going down to the Atlas for some racquetball but it was such a beautiful night out and soon enough the weather would close in, leaving only indoor sports for the winter, that he instead decided to take the soccer ball out into the park after dinner.

So, as night fell he was out there with a blessedly white colored soccer ball, doing some dribbles up and down the open part of the park.

[ooc: Open!]

GOB was having a quiet night tonight. Or at least he was until the zombies decided to play nothing but Cher. At that point, GOB was having a drunk night.

Meanwhile, Tino put up a sign:
Help Wanted
Someone needed to work the bar on Thursdays.
No experience or people skills needed.
Inquire at the bar.

[OOC: INFO FOR THE NEWBIES:

Caritas is a karaoke bar. The zombie band are undead musicians who seemingly know every song you might ever consider singing. Alcohol is served to minors. Tino is the NPC bartender who you can always mod if you don't want to deal with the person running the bar that night. And any attempted violence will teleport the person attempting the violence elsewhere on the island.

That's Caritas in a nutshell.]

Why was he at the Post Office on a Sunday? Moist had no idea.

There was no Gladys, seeing as she was off somewhere, doing whatever it was Golems did on their rest day. There was a Not Tiddles, who swiped at him from under the Sorting Engine, but he managed to avoid her.

Only to get smacked in the face with a letter that came shooting out of the Engine.

After a minute or two of cursing, and a glare for a very smug looking Not Tiddles, whom he now suspected had simply been trying to distract him, he picked it up and read the front. "The Sheriff again. Interesting. And urgent."

Getting in good with the local law had become something of a past-time for Moist. As he considered whether to deliver it or not - it was Sunday, after all - he was struck with the horrifying realisation that he actually quite liked the Sheriff.

"Wonderful," he muttered, and went to deliver it.

It was Sunday and the church was quiet apart from the slamming of the broken window. Gabriel wondered if arranging a church service which included fixing the window and tidying up the place was a possibility.

[The church is open]
