Normally, Jenny celebrated the national holidays of whatever country she happened to find herself in by getting really really drunk and then finding someone to shag, but she was currently gainfully employed, a new and novel state, which meant she probably needed to show up for her shift if she wanted to remain such.

So she was at Pixie Dust, with a bottle of vodka and a shot glass on the counter in front of her to facilitate getting really really drunk at work. She could find someone to shag later. Or maybe shag a customer. That would work, too.

In addition, there was a sign on the door:

SALE!

Karal and Jaina had agreed to do the ice cream thing before classes started, which really only left today to do it. Which was fine by her, as she was all for the distraction today. Though as she led the way in, holding the door open, she said, "You know, when I suggested this, I didn't think we were going to be here."

[For Karal, but open for all your do-you-really-need-ice-cream-HERE? needs. And Karal is totally wearing a bowler hat and monocle, really.]

Ella had no idea the fourth was a holiday, until the grumbling of the kitchen staff gave her a good idea.

"Give us the day off," the dishwasher demanded.

"Um. All right," Ella said, only a little nervous. If it was a holiday, there shouldn't be too many customers ... right? And most of the food wasn't that hard to cook; she could manage on her own.

Absolutely.

After the staff left, she finished the prep work and settled in behind the counter. The diner seemed very quiet.

Jen had gotten the brilliant idea to spend the entire night out on Antarctica; she blamed it on being completely charmed by the penguins yesterday.

From the look on her face when she made it in today, it hadn't been so brilliant after all.

[OOC: OCD-free, and I'll be in and out all day. Silly holidays.]

Prince Oscar Pedro was making a downright ruckus in the store toady, meowing is naked little head off. Chad thought at first it was because the cat was cold (he still hadn't found out what happened to his sweater, and was still in the process of getting another one), but then he realized that it had more to do with the small American flag in the cat's mouth. This confused Chad on several levels. Most importantly was where the hell Prince Oscar Pedro got that flag in the first place. But the more presiding one was the fact that it made no sense. //"We're not American, Neko-kun,"// Chad tried to explain, in Japanese, as if to emphasize the point. He would have done Spanish, but Prince Oscar Pedro always responded better to Japanese. //"Why would we celebrate an American holiday?"//

But Prince Oscar Pedro would not be appeased until Chad, reluctantly and grunting, had a flag in his hand too and, on occasion, gave it a little wave.

He loved his kitten, honestly. But, sometimes, he really just did not understand him.

Today's mix: Meow Mix

Groovy Tunes is open!

Kaylee didn't mind working on a holiday (even one she only kinda sorta knew of) because truth be told, this was how she'd spend it anyway, given her druthers.

So she was there, carefully putting the finishing touches on Lucas' ball polisher.

Hee. Ball polisher.

River sat quietly behind the desk, making sketches of penguins on various scraps of paper.

Welcome to the Arms Hotel!

The dancing penguins and the choir were gone. Both Gabriel and Cat were pleased about this. The scent of coffee, fresh donuts and tuna filled the church.

[The church is open]

Barney didn't arrive on time at all.

But when he did arrive, he was gym-suited up and ready for any ugly ducklings that might require his services as Personal Trainer in meeting their swan potential.

Jolee was barely aware of the holiday today, but that didn't mean the zombies didn't know it.

They kept playing "Stars & Stripes Forever" on a loop after Jolee objected to "The 1812 Overture" which featured the bass player falling apart during the parts where things were supposed to explode.

There was still a sign somewhere indicating that Jolee was still hiring.

[OOC: I'm around for a couple hours until I wander over somewhere to see fireworks.]
