It seemed new classes were about to start, new students and teachers would discover the joys and the many peculiarities of the island. She hoped some would find their way into town and visit.

She opened up the Infernal Machine and began the long and arduous process of balancing the store's accounting books.

The Imperial Brim is open.

(The OCD ran away and hid!)

When Zack got to work, it was clear he was getting over a case of the sniffles that had sequestered him to his room yesterday. And not because he was actually sniffling. Oh, no. It was clear because he was pouting.

Wiggly little social butterfly that he was, it bugged him to no end that he'd missed the newbie picnic as a result. When he got sick, it was never for long. And there was only one newbie day a... semester.

Okay, so he didn't have long to wait until next time, really. It wasn't going to stop him from making cow-eyes until the staff let him change the specials board.

Today's Specials:
Share a story about your first day on the island, get your meal half-off!

The giant anthropomorphic singing dishes were way too good to Zack. They knew just as well as he did that this particular special was more for the sake of letting the kid meet people.

[OCD up! The OOC thread has an important note on the dishes, for those of you not yet in the know!]

Ben liked the back to school display Harper had set up on Friday, so he just added some old, barely presentable paperbacks to the display. Technically they weren't school supplies, but reading was FUN-damental. Ben had seen posters that said that.

25% off your used school supplies!
And Non-School Books!

Ben took a seat behind the counter and waited for a notebook with a horrifying clown face or something to show up.

One of Kyle's duties at the FPHQ, as far as he was concerned, was feeding the goldfish. It wasn't that he didn't trust Sam and Max to be able to care for a living creature, but... Actually, no, that was pretty much exactly it. As he sprinkled the fish food into the bowl, though, he couldn't help but feel that it was glaring somewhat ominously. But then Kyle pushed those thoughts away because, really, it was a kriffing goldfish.

Jak's first night on the island had been pretty restful. Of course, he hadn't exactly packed a lot to take with him (and he wouldn't be surprised if somewhere, Samos really wanted to lecture him for diving into things unprepared) so moving in hadn't exactly cost him much. Still, his roommate was cool, and people so far seemed to get him, so that worked out.

The Precurian-to-Roman alphabet translation chart that Samos had given him was even accurate. The old man hadn't spited him that much, which was good. And his roommate was cool.

All of this didn't mean that Jak didn't feel slightly homesick in the morning. In order to alleviate that, he made his way down to the beach, the wrappings around his feet pulled back enough to let his toes stick out and push through the sand as he walked.

He wondered how far he could swim without any Lurker sharks popping up (did they have Lurker sharks here?) for a few minutes, then got distracted by jumping and climbing up a few rocks near the coastline. The weather might not have been what he was used to, but otherwise, he managed to create a credible illusion of being back in Sandover. That was good enough.

Carrying a basket with some handwavily bought treats (some were even healthy), Leda stood in the sand, wriggling her bare toes into the gritty sediment. It was a unique sensation she wasn't quite used to yet. She was wearing a dark green t-shirt with the name of some band (the logo was so faded it was illegible), and cargo shorts.

[For one, but the beach is open of course.]

Jack had completely forgotten that Fight Club had been canceled, as he hadn't been paying attention to the announcements last week. Or the week before. Or to most of the announcements.

The notice on the door, he did notice.

It was Sunday night, and he was still here. Jack decided to get some time in with the heavy bag. It was an opponent he could hit and it wouldn't hit back, so he was doing better than he normally did at Atlas.

[Open for working out! Fight Club has been canceled. Mun is at work until 1am bEST]

Biff, in honor of the start of the school year had posted a sign:

SPECIAL SALE ON WEAPONS: 300 PERCENT MARK-UP

He felt quite pleased with himself, especially since he was never going to sell anything anyway.

The Wellspring Arms was open!

Mina was a mite twitchy today, as she sipped at her coffee. She'd not tasted blood in over a week. She'd expected to feel weaker, but it only seemed as if her more supernatural qualities were dampened by the lack of feeding. Functioning as a normal person seemed utterly unaffected.

The hunger, however, was beginning to gnaw at her.

She was trying to drown that hunger in coffee.

[ooc: Open!]

As Remus touched down on his broomstick, he immediately pulled out a map from the inside of his robes. "Now, according to the map, we're actually on the island now. However." He pulled out a yellowed bit of parchment with scrawling, scratchy penmanship. "According to Alastor's second set of directions, we are twenty-four kilometers south of where we ought to be."

Granted, Moody's directions were the reason they were in Australia yesterday. But Remus still wanted to cross-check them.

[for Padfoot, omg, but open!]

Robin was somewhat tired when she opened Caritas tonight. She threw Tino a dirty look as she headed to the back, claiming inventory.

More accurately, she was going to take a nap. Tino could suck it.

Chloe had opened up the store and after checking things out and making sure everything was in the proper place.

She was now set up behind the counter with some catalogs and magazines as she was looking for things to put in her and Helen's new room.

Coyote Medicine was open.

Sophie's plans for her out-of-town trip tomorrow were now finalized. Consultation with the gallery showing the CEO's Chagalls: check. Arrangement for outside authentication: check. Switch with moving company: check.

Really, it was wonderful to be working again.

Still on exhibit: Susan Seddon Boulet: Goddesses and Shamans.

And the sign Help Wanted - Inquire Within. now said: Employees Wanted.

There were new kids in town, which meant that Lacey got to work extra early today in order to get the diner shined and polished within an inch of its life . . . driving the dishwasher to despair with her silverware-related demands.

She didn't care. There was no excuse for those dishes to have spots on them today, and she'd just . . . help him find counseling for it afterward or something, if it came to that.

Today's Specials
Sweet and Sour Red Cabbage with Apples and Tempeh
Roast Beef on Cracked Wheat with Aged Cheddar
Gazpacho

Now Hiring: Several Shifts Available!
See Manager for Details

Luke's Diner is open, and somewhat blinding if you happen to catch the sunlight in just the right (wrong?) way.

[OOC: See OOC thread for employment details!]
