No, sleep had not happened last night. Katchoo hadn't expected it to.

You'd think she'd be in a worse mood today because of that, rather than just a subdued one, but she seemed to be tapped out on anger for the time being and yes, that was weird.

So, quiet today, the slumped-behind-the-counter variety, and staring at the blank page of the sketchbook in front of her, waiting for her hand to want to guide the pencil across the paper. And waiting.

. . . damn.

Wellspring Arms & Meditation Centre, Wednesday

Ino, after a night of without any outside influences, had lost most of the headache but hadn’t really slept better. She supposed it made sense that nightmares would go in... cycles, or something, of severity, but ugh, this sucked.

After fussing with the plants—because no way was she going to neglect them—Ino curled up in Cable-san’s chair and settled in to brood.

It was just that sort of day.

The horses had made it known in no uncertain terms that they were not in the mood to go outside today.

Rather than try to fight with all of them, she fed them and cleaned their stalls out around them, before setting up camp on a hay bale in the barn to keep an eye on them.

Dinah was fixing up the last of the pumpkin-and-leaf displays, the Halloween decorations, and the autumn flowers, just being quiet today. Oh, and looking up different types of compost and fertilizer to send to Reno in Midgar. Why hadn't she thought of that earlier?

Alex was a little late to work, yes. There had been a boat, in a basement. She hadn't ever expected that to be a turn-on, working on a boat, but most people didn't work on boats the way Gibbs did ...

Atlas Gym - Wednesday

As seemed to be the habit, Beka was once more dragged up for the aerobics class that morning. The instructor kept muttering under his breath about how she was going to be doing the next week. Beka didn't mind putting it off another week.

Once the torture was over and the chores were out of the way, she retrieved her baton and practised on one of the boxing bags. She might as well get her own training in until someone needed help with sommat.

The Preserve, Wednesday evening

Zayne needed to try something new. Training with the Force in his dorm room didn't generally seem to work out. He was going with the theory that while there was plenty of life in the dorms, it was very busy. People were all around him, walking, talking, doing all kinds of things that could, in theory, be distracting to someone trying to focus on the life force of everything around him.

It wasn't necessarily a good theory, but it was a theory nonetheless. And that was why he came out to the Preserve tonight. The Force was in everything out here. Even Zayne and his relative lack of sensitivity could feel that. He took a seat on the ground, closed his eyes, and opened his mind...

Zayne managed not to try too hard, to let the energy find him in its own time. As he did this, he could slowly start to sense his surroundings. A squirrel here. A teal deer there. An owl above him. Okay. That one he could hear, Force or no Force. But still, it counted.

As this went on, Zayne started to think that maybe he was right. Maybe he just needed to change his routine. Maybe...

Maybe on second thought this whole nature thing wasn't working as well as he thought. After all, he didn't sense the owl when it swooped down to grab his braid, probably thinking it was some kind of weird woodland creature. The bad part, Zayne mused as he managed to get his hair away from the owl, was that this was still one of the more successful meditations Zayne had experienced recently.
