Jill was kind of in a mood today, after waking up to a note about how Jack made out with Ramie on New Year's Day and that was cool, right? And she'd missed her first Japanese Culture class. Stupid cycle. Whatever. She needed a distraction, and she knew just the thing.

The drinks were on the sideboard, the art was on the walls, and Jill was making a powerpoint presentation on how to get a prom date and shopping for dresses. It was never too early to get started!

Inasmuch as a Vulcan could 'hate' something, Spock hated winter. He'd had just enough time on Vulcan over the break to get accustomed to the hot, dry weather of his homeworld, and now he was back, and Tuesday morning saw him bundling up for the dash to his place of employment.

Once he arrived, he started tinkering with some of the less in-progress-looking materials, attempting to determine their purpose without breaking them. The technology of this time was, in its own way, fascinating.

Jack popped open the Photo Hut and started stacking film cans in pyramids, trying for the largest structure he could build on the counter, dozens of those little black plastic film containers rolling around on the counter.

After all the excitement of last night, Hinata was still unsurprised that Yei was full of energy and wriggling around the store for all she was worth. A few hours of completely zonked out full-fledged sleep, as deep as a kitten could manage, worked wonders apparently.

Hinata was smiling at that, however, as she made tea and set out cookies for any visitors. She claimed the first cup of tea as her own and settled in to working on tidying up the displays. They weren't particularly messy, but it was something to do.

Ino wasn't doing much studying or planning today but that was alright with her. She had plenty to consider, even without her lists, and it was one of those days where all she really wanted to do?

Was turn up the radio and sing along as she fussed over the flowers. Seriously, working in a flower shop made days like today so much easier. And awesome.

And loud, since Ino was fond of volume. At least she had a cute singing voice?

Didi's first workday of the year started as a cold but normal day at the general store. Apu had already taken down all of the holiday decorations, save a final lingering display of 75-percent-off Christmas merchandise.

Didi passed the time between shoppers putting together a display of Japanese snack foods in honor of her first class. She was developing quite the Strawberry Pocky addiction.

T&C was open. Squishy flavors: Edamame, Green Tea, Red.

Geoffrey took his time hammering the sign onto the front, considering the wind and the snow there'd been recently.

...that should do it.

He headed back inside, hoping things went as well as they had the last time, and hoping to see a familiar face on the stage. Really, he was figuring he'd see a few familiar faces, but there was one he was missing at the moment.

A new year, and Oz didn't feel any different. He did have to remember to write 10, instead of 09 on things, but that was about the only change.

Today he decided to arrange the figurines in the window display so it looked like they were at a seminar or something.

Welcome to Coyote Medicine.

Fiona was doing her research and her job, of course, but she was also sending out a few emails, mostly to check in with people.

To her aunt Dallas, she sent some pictures from the trip to NY, as well as a long letter telling her about the party and the museums and her time with her friends. She assured her aunt that she was fine, that despite her fears to the contrary that New Years hadn't actually managed to spook her.

...it hadn't helped that it had snowed that day, but Fiona liked to think that showed she was getting over some of her twitches.

To her uncle Aaron, she reported her progress. That email was brief and to the point. Uncle Henry got an update re: her school work and her friends, and a small request to say hello to Cee; she wasn't even going to try and attempt a call home now. Cautious, but unwilling to deny herself, she also sent an email to her father, asking about how he was and his holiday and also to trade a few amusing observations about cats. It was a strange thing to bond over, but so it was.

The last one she sent was to Robert, asking for pictures of the Maybach. He'd probably wonder why, but she was reasonably sure she'd have them by the end of the day; Robert always seemed eager to help her, even since they'd... become slightly awkward. Eliot didn't get an email. Instead, every few minutes between notes, he got a text message.

Vocabulary insult of the digital age, folks.

Tim busied himself arranging the stock so the new issues were in front ect. He of course pulled a few for perusal at the counter.

"Wait, wasn't he dead?"

Tim apparently still did not realize how things worked in the comic book world.

There was also a huge sign in the window:

As Mary had hoped, the Las Vegas tabloids had already moved onto the next big story. Still, her cell phone kept ringing as everyone she knew kept calling to ask if it was true: was she dating A.J. Cooper? After giving three or four denials, Mary just stopped answering her phone.

Raven had been keeping herself scarce for the past several days. New students gave her a headache until they settled due to her constant shielding against their emotions, which ranged from being homesick to anxiety about making friends to excitement about a new school. She'd finally ventured out for classes yesterday and this morning, and then to work. Her classes were interesting so far, and with Thursdays and Fridays free, it meant extra long weekends -- for study and meditation, of course.

She'd even found a book about mythology to occupy herself today. Too bad it was porn versions of the classic tales.

As Lion-o shared his stories about his trip home with the Café Fina staff, there was one detail that they immediately latched onto: the candy fruit grown by the Robear Berbils.

"No, I didn't think to bring any of it back," said Lion-o, surprised by their reaction. "Of course, yes, I'll definitely bring some back the next time."

Magic Box, Tuesday

First shipment of the new year had arrived and John was carefully going through it. Most of it was stuff for sale, but there were also some books he'd been after for his own research into the Yellow Eyed Demon Problem, as well as some hunting supplies -- enough for his own occasional hunt as well as to restock Dean and Alec the next time they came to visit. It made him feel better if he could make sure his boy had everything he needed while he was out there hunting without him.

It was a new term as well and so John had put the HELP WANTED sign back in the window.

The Magic Box was open.

When the horses were out in the paddock today, she noticed that Duke seemed a bit more restless than the others. She figured he needed more exercise today, so she decided to take him out for a ride. Only he was being stubborn and staying right where he was.

"You can do this," Kris said soothingly to the horse. She was reminded a bit of Wildfire's stubbornness.

After awhile, though, Duke was off and running. She hadn't been riding horses legally since she was at Raintree months ago. It was good to do so again.

The Gig was open.

Another semester. Jono found himself wondering as he poked through the CD displays exactly how in the world he'd managed to survive his first one, and how in the world he was going to make it through his second.

But all of that would come, he supposed. If nothing else, he could always come and hang around here.

He put a sign in the window, saying that he'd give half-off any purchase for the low price of one song recommendation, and then he grabbed a disc at random and put it on to give it a listen. Silverchair. He could live with that.

Leda's mood would seem to have improved dramatically since her earlier melancholy. She whooped delightedly as she sped her motorcycle around the causeway parking lot, testing it's speed and maneuverability.

Robin's New Year's resolutions this year had included taking up yoga, quitting smoking, and cutting back on drinking.

Tonight, five days into 2010, Robin strode into the bar and irritably threw an inexplicably tattered yoga mat into the back room.

She followed this by lighting up a cigarette and pouring herself a beer.

Robin was good at sticking to her convictions. Totally. The one thing cheering her up was that tonight Canada was going to beat the USA for World Junior Hockey. She would take solace in that.

[um, I'm around, for the first time in like three weeks. Yay holidays and the end of term? ETA: THANKS TO [livejournal.com profile] longislandiceme FOR HOCKEY INFO]
