With new students and teachers all over the island and radio tryouts starting up again tonight, Lacey was in a little bit of a flurry of excitement.

To be polite about it; the kitchen staff was contemplating a tranquilizer dart, the way she was running around telling them to clean up grease spots the size of a pinhead and how that had better not be a stray hair threatening to come loose and drift toward the food and --

That tranquilizer dart might not be a bad idea.

Today, Angua was actually working, at her desk, on paperwork, without any complaining or even any sort of reluctance. And she wasn't even thinking anything of it, either. She was just simply doing it, like it was the most natural thing in the world.

Which it wasn't, of course. So Ralph was making sure the keep a good safe distance. That sort of calm acceptance of a typically anametha task usually signaled the beginning phases a complete and utter explosion.

Little did he know that it was all part of Angua's new plan. If she just did her work and even seemed pleasant about it, Ralph was too apprehensive to approach her and give her more.

So Jane had heard there was some sort of picnic going on, new people arriving and everything. She had done the usual stuff and kept herself away from that, well aware that there wasn't anyone in that crowd she knew, besides the customers that came to her store. The fact she was completely sure she wasn't going to find John on that crowd was another important factor, but she was trying not to think about that. Which in turn had made her a silent presense on the counter, almost like a living statue. She didn't feel like making drawings at the moment.

Strokes of Genius was open for business.

Pixie Dust, Monday

It was the first day of the new term, and so Makita was behind the counter at Pixie Dust, boots up on the register as she flipped through one of the trashy magazines she'd found stashed by the booze. She didn't know who half these people were, but she didn't care. It was just more proof that these Transnats were insane.

In honor of the new semester, however, she had taken time to write up a sign with sharpie and slap it in the window:

Welcome to Fandom.
20% off for new students if you can prove you're from another time / planet / reality.

Pixie Dust was open, and if you were lucky, Maki wouldn't offer any fashion advice.

After making sure the store was in top shape, Alex spent a few minutes searching the shelves for spell books. She'd done some research on the wizard web and hoped she'd find what she was after.

The Magic Box was open.

Whether the Gremlins had planned, and manipulated it, or if it was just some weird coincidence, Oz, Tim, Tully, Leda and even Billy (taking a break from finals to hang out on the island) had been in one place at once. And fell to the biting teeth of their attackers.

Now, Johnny "The J" Johnson of Darkstone Entertainment had gathered his dream cast (Nathan Fillion Tim, William Shatner Tully, Mark Hamill Billy and Elvira Leda, to re-make Metropolis Dystopia.

"Actors!" he cried. "Be you ready?"

They indicated they were indeed. Though Shatner of course maneuvered his way to the front.

"All right! Elvira, your dress is perfect. Shatner, pause just a little more between sentences. Mark you manly man you you're made of wonderful. Nathan...everything you're doing is wrong."

He held up his imaginary camera. "Rolling, and...action!"

"We love you Anakin, oh yes we doooo!" Elvira began to croon to Mark Hamill. "We love you Anakin, and we'll be true. When you're not near us, we're blue!"

"Cut!"

[IDK. But the post is open.]

It had been an eventful newbie weekend for Didi, what with Delirium on the island on top of all the usual chaos of overwhelmed people trying to find their way. She was glad she'd made an ice cream date with Jake; if they hadn't planned this, it might have been another few weeks before she remembered to check in with him.

She bounced a bit on her toes as she waited, considering her options. She wondered if Del had been in yet to ask about green telephone ice cream. If she hadn't, she might suggest her sister try mango sorbet with chocolate sauce. That sounded pretty good to her anyhow...

[OOC: Didi's here for Jacob, but it is an open ice cream shop!]

The second Saturday in May was coming up fast, so Dani had her laptop out as she tried to see if tickets for the Preakness Stakes were still available. It looked like tickets for the infield were plentiful, but Dani didn't think she would be caught dead with the masses. If that was all she could get, she figured she was better off staying home and throwing her own party on race day.

The other option was to call her dad and see if he could get clubhouse tickets through his Turf Club membership. Dani would much rather eat grass than ask her dad for help.

The Gig was open!

So newbie weekend had been a great distraction from everything else going on in her life, but Claire knew she couldn't put off the conversation she needed to have with Elle much longer. In fact, she was a little surprised she had managed to put it off this long.

She knew it was necessary though and made a promise to call the other girl as soon as she got back from work. In the meantime, she was pouring over every issue of Ninth Wonders available in the store, looking for clues about her future.

It was a bored Ashley who showed up for work today. She had deliberately avoided going out in public over the weekend because of the influx of new folks on the island. As such, she was caught up on her reading, her internet surfing and her workouts.

Maybe someone interesting would come in and save her from herself today. Jessi absolutely did not qualify as interesting.

All told, Claudia was in a pretty good mood at the store today, singing 80s pop songs under her breath and she skimmed the shelves and made sure everything was in place.

You know, when she wasn't in class, blowing up papayas with faces using microwave technology.

Man, she loved science.

Ah, new people! Zack was actually in a good mood today, humming to himself (in that catchy tune that the dishes had been singing in last week), as he made his way to Cafe Fina for his shift.

It took great, great self-control to keep from jumping into the kickline that the napkins had started. But somehow, he persevered!

Today's Specials:
All meals and desserts half-price for any new students or teachers! So come in, let us pull up a chair, as Café Fina proudly presents... Your Dinner.

Fina is open, and you're welcome to come in to be our guest!

In honor of the newbies, Karla gave the store a thorough cleaning; it didn't really need one, but it wouldn't do to have the their first view of the store be anything less than sparkling.

That, and Karla had seen some old movie on teevee the other night and wanted to see if she could try it. Without the endless broomsticks and flooding, of course. But it had looked like fun--even back home, hearthwitches didn't use Craft to clean quite so flamboyantly.

On the window was another sign:

NOT A CANDY STORE
...Though we do have chocolate!

Honestly, Adrian had been looking forward to work today. Not for the actual work, of course, but there were potentially new people to meet. And some of them might be hot, or at the very least interesting. And if he was really lucky, both.

There was also the little matter of having a certain dhampir using him for field experience. Since she kept refusing to use him for other things.

So Adrian was in a good mood today, even greeting Tino with, "Make yourself a drink, on me." He didn't realize or care why that still got him glared at.

Ender had gotten himself a spot behind the counter in a timely manner unlike his tired mun. The store didn't have any particularly new sheen to it now that he managed it; it just became a convenient place he might be able to start storing things.

For the first time in a while, Ender bugged JARVIS, asking him questions about this thing or that in the spirit of exploration of his new workspace.

And no ulterior motives at all.

Fred Dukes sat on one of the park benches, oddly quiet for the normally loud-mouthed Texan.

He was re-reading the letter he'd received in the mail today, even though it really didn't take time to re-read.

'What happened to you?' was all it read. No name, no return address, no stamp.

It was ominous. And creepy.

Fred didn't like it one bit. Eventually he just crumpled it in his fist and threw it at the duck pond.

Hawkeye loved gourmet coffee. It wasn't the best thing about the 21st century, but it was in the Top 5. You could choose the amount of milk, creamer or foam you wanted, cold or hot, and the flavors! There were so many to choose from (but never fruit. Fruit didn't belong in coffee and neither did bacon). He ordered the biggest cup they offered with black coffee, vanilla in it and whipped cream on top. That, a toasted plain bagel with plain cream cheese and a newspaper and Hawkeye was happy to watch the morning pass him by from the table near the window.
