It was the last day of the year and Bod's first day at the diner. When he arrived, he took the time to introduce himself to all the staff, complimenting them on the food he'd had yesterday and the general upkeep of the diner. Making a good first impression seemed to be key to getting along with people as the days passed.

Once done with that, he walked around, acclimating himself to the new area and getting a feel of where everything was and how everything worked. Once that was done, he took up a spot behind the counter and started wiping said counters down while he waited for customers.

The Park, New Years Eve Party 2010

The gates and walls of Fandom were covered in lights big and small, and as soon as the sun went down, they went on. They could be followed, like a path, down to the park, where even the trees shone brightly in the night.

There were tables upon tables of food, and bottles of drink; chief among them was the cocoa, kept warm and snugly spiked with peppermint schnapps for those who dared to touch it. There were bonfires here and there, to keep the chill out of everyone's bones, and a thick sheet of ice laid upon the pond, ready to be skated on.

Thanks to the bright, cheerful lights, the decorations also became visible: angels and animals and flowers made of snow and lit with an almost unearthly soft neon glow, pinks and blues and gentle greens.

It was New Years Eve, 2010, and Fandom was ready to let the year turn in style.

The Arms Hotel Lobby, Friday [12/31]

Mary had returned to the island earlier in the morning. Her trip to Las Vegas had been refreshing, though not in the way she had expected. Delinda had a work crisis and Sam decided to stay put in Hawaii, so Mary had spent her trip with Polly from the spa. They ordered room service while going through Polly's collection of Hugh Grant movies. Mary also got to hear way too much information about Polly's sex life.

As she went through her paperwork at the front desk, Mary told Gunther all about her trip, leaving out most of the details of Polly's magic fingers. It was very reassuring to know that Gunther wasn't as crazy as Polly. Of course, Gunther had to ruin the moment by saying that he missed getting Polly's "special" massage treatments.

The invite to the New Years Eve party had been surprising but timely. After all, he had a lot of friends to see and a lot of fun to have. The party, that was a little too public for him so he was staying to the dark corners of the streets.

Every so often, someone would pass by that would either pique his attention or be too inferior for him to even try. He knew what kinds of weapons people on this island had and he really didn't want a lynch mob tailing him.

So, he was just walking slowly in the shadows, hands in his pockets and sunglasses covering his eyes. Now, it was just a matter of finding someone interesting. That couldn't be that hard on this island.
