Ender sat down with his computer that morning, and looked sternly into the webcam. Which made him feel ridiculous, so he dropped his eyes away from it and at the screen before he spoke.

"Have you been messing with the Fixer-Uppers wifi system?" he asked.

"I'm just a banking program," Jane retorted. "Little old me wouldn't go and do something like that."

"But you're not, are you? Just a banking program? All these security protocols you have, the access, none of it belongs to a normal program. And the way you respond to what I do and say, that's not normal, either."

"Oh, look, mister I-Saved-The-World-And-I-Like-To-Brood-About it has decided to take up being a kettle. How do you manage that?"

Ender sighed in irritation. "You're just proving my point," he said, feeling slightly silly for arguing with a computer.

"Was there anything you wanted done?"

"Stop infecting computers," he ordered, "And let me get my email in peace."

"Boring."

With a groan, Ender got back to work. There were bananas on the holographic projector, but he really didn't want to deal with it today.

In between the book she'd found stashed beneath the counter (when was she going to need to know how to run away from, say, an ocean liner?), the delivery that still didn't contain the nails she'd been expecting but did contain watering cans for some inexplicable reason, and the sudden abundance of spinach in her planters, Lacey was having a perplexing kind of morning.

That didn't ease up at all when, in the process of harvesting the spinach, a bottle of white glue, a box of crayons, and some pipe cleaners fell out of the planters (or maybe thin air) at her feet.

". . . I'm growing elementary school supplies now?" she asked with a groan. And just . . . gave up asking, right then and there.

After the rather contentious sex ed class, Quinn was hoping it'd be a nice, quiet, utterly asexual day at the hotel.

Of course it wasn't, at least to go by the porn soundtrack-like music playing over the lobby speaker. Quinn tried to change it to something else to no avail before giving up and settling in with her algebra book. She was fairly certain it wouldn't try to seduce her.

Welcome to the Arms Hotel!

Angua watched with concern as Ralph and a few of the other troopers went about putting up chains of shiny paper hearts around the ceiling and the desks and the coffee maker around the station.

"I want to ask what that's all about," she eventually admitted, "but, at the same time, I know I don't want to ask..."

It was at that time that her Gooseberry started to blingy-blingy-boop on her desk, making her jump slightly where she sat. "Good gods," she said, "I thought you were dead."

But it wasn't, and the Gooseberry imp went on to volunteer the information to Insert-Name-Here about Valentine's Day and that was most likely the reason for the decorations going up around the station. Through the description, Angua was definitely frowning.

"It's not even February yet! There's still two weeks!"

It didn't seem to matter, though; they were getting into the Valentine's day mood, and Angua shook her head. "At least it's not as bad as that whole Christmas starting in October business."

She really couldn't wait to get back to Anhk-Morpork where people didn't give a rat's bum about most holidays.

This whole seeing-Raven-back-from-the-dead, and meeting her for coffee, thing was weird. No -- Tara needed a word that went beyond weird. Bizarre? Miraculous? Unbelievable?

Something along those lines might work, anyhow. It wasn't that Tara was unhappy Raven was back; far from it. It was just ... complicated. Complicated by her own feelings of guilt, and a little anger, and her issues with demons in general.

Trying to focus on how amazing it was Raven had come back at all and not on the questions swirling around her head about it, Tara clutched at her hazelnut mocha as a familiar lifeline while she watched out the window for Dolf and Raven.

Death might be unpredictable. Coffee remained the same.

There was pink and lace EVERYWHERE, and it made Makita itch just to look at it.

Which was why the mannequins were posed in all-out war, with the ones properly dressed for winter were dumping fake styrofoam snowballs on their enemies in lingerie.

Pixie Dust was open, but you'd get mocked if you got something pink.

"Goddammit!"

Book Haven was open. Just don't mind the cursing of the employee behind the desk. Stubborn firewalls would do that to a girl.

Jono. Kitten. Music shop.

This was kind of the norm around here for Mondays, now. Really, nobody should be surprised.

And the 'Help Wanted' sign that was in the window? Also probably not a huge shock. After all, every day of the week except for Monday and Wednesday were free, and really, he just wanted to share the love.

... Or not have to unpack the massive shipment of terrible 90s Boy Band music all on his own. Lord, who listened to this rubbish?

Groovy Tunes was, of course, open. And if Jonothon was letting Joni bat around and chew on the cover-slip of some Backstreet Boys CD or other, then what of it?

[Open and flying without OCD again!]

Armed with a giant cup of coffee, Alex settled in behind the counter to do some research on spells. She had a couple of books in front of her and would probably add more to the pile before the day was over.

The Magic Box is open.

From the moment Jake walked in to the pub, Tino had been pestering him about needing duck food and a heating lamp to help... a baby duckling he'd acquired, apparently.

Jake had had enough.

"Tino, would you just, just, shut up about your stupid duckling?" Jake said. "I don't have any duck food!"
