Like most of Fandom, William was left puzzling over the events of the weekend. He remembered being content, mostly, underlaid with a certain sadness. And he'd had a career in law enforcement. That much, at least, was encouraging considering he'd always kind of thought such things were beyond his reach.

The computer systems today were giving him popup ads for miracle cures for memory loss.

"Oh, very funny," he muttered to empty air.

It was different being back in the store for a full shift. Aphrodite was looking forward to an entire day of calm, which would be a great change after having to constantly use her powers to try and hold back mobs of people from beating on crowds of other people. Things seemed to be quiet in the Middle East today, or at least as quiet as they had been recently. There was on troublespot that she, Cupid and Bliss hadn't seemed to make headway in, but if they conceded that to Ares, maybe they could save the rest. She hoped so.

Today, then, was for relaxation and recovery. She expected a few shoppers, a few people just looking, and mainly a quiet day.

She didn't expect a delivery man with a stack of boxes. 'Dite had checked, and all orders were scheduled for the next week. She frowned, looking at the manifest on the side of the box.

Are these books? )

(Store and post are open. Expecting one, but anyone who wishes can drop in. This is the last week before 'Dite becomes an Ex-pat.)

When Nathan wandered into the bar that night, he was still frowning over a few messages he'd gotten from his mum earlier in the day. He'd spent most of the day on the mainland, doing some shopping for himself (including a new pair of shoes he was wearing now and a new hoodie that he'd also donned because it was fucking colder than it should be) when he'd gotten a few texts asking about the possibility of him coming home for awhile this summer. Honestly, he'd been convinced that his mum hadn't wanted anything to do with him so he thought she'd been joking. She hadn't been and Nathan hadn't been able to answer with anything more than a lame 'I'll think about it.'

But, Nathan didn't want to spend his entire night frowning. He'd been doing that so much over the last few days that he was sure he'd given himself new wrinkles and that just wouldn't fucking do. His face was too beautiful for that. So, he broke out some whiskey, got himself a glass, poured the booze, and tossed it back. First but not last of the night. Once that was done, he grabbed both the glass and the bottle and wandered up to the stage. No, he wasn't going to fucking sing (he had to be drunker for that) but he did wanna do something ridiculous. So, he shooed the zombies off the stage and into the backroom before stepping up to the mic. "What should I do up here, Tino? Talk about the political situation in Ireland? It's fucked, man. Talk about how my mom wants me to come home for some reason? No fucking clue, mate. Oh, I got it, poetry slam!"

Right, Nathan was gonna recite poetry. "Let's see, let's see. The sun shines in the east, the wind blows from the west. My pants can barely contain the beast but that just means I'm blessed!"

Yeah, that was about how his poetry could go tonight.

Kate was twitchy at work today and not just because LJ was still being an unstable thing of instability. The weekend was still bugging her quite a lot, and there were other – better – things too, that resulted in her being full of a nervous kind of energy and not really knowing what to do with herself. Things were weird, which in itself was probably normal but anyway.

She bickered with a few coworkers about today's choice of movie, but eventually let them have their way even if she didn't find it nearly as hilarious as they did.

The Magic & Support Reserves gathered in a clearing in the preserve today, seated around an empty fire pit. A brook cursed merrily along within earshot, and a few birds argued in the trees overhead. There was a sad lack of prepared snacks, but at least the trees were pretty, in an early spring kind of way.

"Hi," Tara said, hands tucked into the pocket of her hooded windbreaker. "Welcome to nature. Today, we're talking about what you need to do if you end up caught outside in an emergency. We're in the preserve, 'cause it's handy like that, so most of what we're talking about will be forest survival. But you could use similar principles on a beach, in a desert, in the snow...."

She gestured, indicating she could go on. "Anyhow, your first priorities should be water, fire, and shelter from the elements. You can go a day or two without eating, but you can't manage that long without a dry place to sleep and water to drink."

"For one thing, fire will usually keep away animals because they fear it," Karla explained, "as well as potentially drawing the notice of people looking for you if you're lost. Even with powers, it's best to know how to create a good fire, so that you're not constantly having to relight it or depend on your powers to keep it going. Make sure you give some thought to your fire prep, because you don't want it to get out of control or go out in the night. Being safe is always important. Stock up on kindling, too, keep in mind the most
appropriate fire
for your purpose."

"Building a fire is also essential for purifying any water you might find," Raven added. "If you do not do so, you may become ill, which will further hamper your attempts to survive. Rainwater that you collect should be fine, but any water from a lake of stream should be boiled -- ten minutes should be sufficient to purify the water. But do not drink salt water, for that will make dehydration worse."

"A lot worse," Dolf said, with a frown and the voice of experience. "There are many ways you can get sick from bad water. Even if you're horribly thirsty." He paused. "Try to find somewhere near water. Usually animals will come there too, and otherwise you will still have the fish. Just don't go in it if it looks like the currents are strong." He could... talk about this for a long while. "Stay close to friends if you have them, for warmth."

"And because if you lose track of your friends, anyone looking for you would have a harder time," Tara pointed out quickly. "Don't go off on your own unless you absolutely have to. The woods are scary enough at night without being alone."

"For an activity today," she added, "We're going to build campfires and then try some campfire cooking."

What, you didn't really think the Reserves would meet in the woods with no snacks, did you?

Jessica had tried to convince Eric that whatever weirdness had made half the island turn 20 years older (she being in the half that was unaffected) was actually still affecting her, and she was now permanently aged.

Unfortunately, the attempt only got her a "Nice try, baby vamp," and it was back to manning the door for her.
