Fixer-Uppers [Wednesday]

William had spent most of yesterday handwavily exploring the island's new home. Though he didn't speak... whatever it was that the Vikings spoke- Old Norse, perhaps?- he'd managed well enough with some simple charades. The Vikings were rather intimidating, but not altogether a bad sort.

In any case, yesterday was for exploring, today was for tinkering.

Alexander was running late for work today, not only because of radio, but because he and Ariel did go over to the spot on the beach where the princess had found Mr. Kyōraku passed out from too much to drink. At first, he was worried that they might not be able to resuscitate him, but after a few pokes at him with a stick, he stirred and awakened and claimed her hadn't done anything wrong, though they accused him of nothing wrong. He made a few comments about the two of them that left Alexander blushing while Ariel thought it was all quite funny, and helped the man back to his apartment, where Alexander made him drink some water before he waved them all off and promptly fell back to sleep.

Alexander, however, could not leave without following his impulse to clean up the messy apartment; Ariel had helped, although, mostly, he was pretty sure she just did so to easily slip away a few more bottles into her possession.

It was not an easy apartment to clean, so by the time Alexander did make it into the shop, he was too tired to really bother doing much. Refinishing and organizing the collectibles and antiques was just going to have to wait for another day.

After some basic dusting and cleaning, Dru settled behind the counter with her sketch book. Sketching made it easier to not think about her lack of plans for the future.

Jane knew for a fact that if she did not force herself to sit down and open up a notebook and settle into her lesson plans, then they would absolutely not get done. She didn't feel it was a fault of her own; she certainly couldn't help it that a more anthropological side had taken over, what with their new location and time period, and the past few days had been spent mostly making observations and filling up other notebooks.

It would be absolute torture if she made this attempt at work in her office, so she made a compromise. If she could head on into the Perk, have a lovely cuppa, and then get at least a little work done, then she'd have accomplished at least something. She could have tea in her office, as well, of course, but this way, she reasoned, if anything exciting happened, she'd be less likely to miss it.

Lion-o took up a position near the diner entrance stayed there for most of his shift. He wanted to be sure that the Vikings stayed outside since he still didn't trust them. Also, he was pretty sure they wouldn't be able to pay for lunch.

It was a rather pensive Kate that came into work today. The box office dude had it in his head that they should be trying to attract their new neighbours in as customers, and Kate couldn't be bothered to point out they didn't seem to know English or be advanced enough to recognize a movie theater, so he got his way.

NOW SHOWING:
Twelve Vikings and an Arab

Yeah. That'd bring in the crowds, sure. MST3000 was open for business.

So, it was Nathan's last shift (that he knew of, at least) at the bar. It was his last shift at a job he'd actually liked more often than not so he was feeling a little verklempt. When Tino offered to hug him, Nathan made to accept that hug before veering off and smacking the back of Tino's head. There were no weepy hugs happening here. Not tonight. Tonight, he planned on having an enjoyable last shift. A handwritten sign ended up out front of Caritas:

It's my last fucking day at work! Come help me celebrate!
Alcohol is free (unless I decide otherwise and I have that right) and any girl that flashes me might get extra special attention.
Lap dances from Tino sold separately. Lap dances from me? We'll talk.

That done, Nathan was back behind the bar, drinking a glass of his favorite whiskey and enjoying himself on a job well done.

Turtle & Canary, Wednesday

Hank was having an absolute BLAST in Ancient Vikingland. There was singing, and big feasts, and... STUFF!!!

And it turned out that if you drank ENOUGH mead, it actually started sort of tasting like honey, like Hank thought it was supposed to. Also, the room started spinning.

Today the store was... open, more or less. Hank was sprawled across the counter, trying not to throw up, with a tankard of mead somewhere nearby and a horned helmet that was way to big for him sitting on his head.

Today's Squishy flavors: Mead, Fish, Red

It was his first day at the new job.

Rude stood impassively behind the counter, watching all the other postal employees do their jobs. Mail came in, mail was sorted, and mail went out. There didn't seem to be a good time or place in the process for Rude to open, read, and re-seal interesting-looking letters, which made him grumpy. Not that you could tell -- his expression was just the same as always.

Aside from inconveniently preventing him from spying on people, there seemed to be something else... odd about the employees. He couldn't figure out just what, and wasn't sure he cared. Fandom would be Fandom, after all.

For the moment, anyway, the job was more or less a lot of standing around and waiting. Rude was good at that.

So, they weren't in Maryland anymore, right? And wherever they were now, Jessica was willing to bet that these Vikings certain didn't have a drinking age limit.

At least that was her plan to argue for working behind the bar instead of the door. How well that would go over with Eric remained to be seen.
