Petra was rocking out as she worked at the store's computer, singing along with the Petey Sci-Fi soundtrack in preparation for play rehearsal. But she gradually got the sense that something was...watching her. That crawly feeling on the back of her neck.

She turned around to find a creepy doll sitting in the middle of the store. "Ma-MA?" it asked, and rose to its feet to toddle closer, and Petra yelped, "Holy mother of God!" and scrambled up on top of the counter.

It seemed like a logical reaction at the time.

Groovy Tunes is open. The clerk might need some assistance.

Alex did not foresee much meditation getting done today, what with the...infestation. He'd borrowed a sword from the stock to use in defending the front door of the shop. (Although a golf club might have been about as much use.) He hoped Cable would understand, but how could he not? The dolls were creepy.

Wellspring Arms & Meditation was open, and Alex was doing his best to keep it creepy doll free.

In the woods on an island floating in the bay,
There's a house where no one lives
'Cause there's a squid in the water that would suck you down if you even thought of trying.
But at night when the house is dark
And there's no one there, there's a noise upstairs.
At the top of the stairs there's a door and the sound of someone crying...

And though no one sees it, something's moving just inside the door;
As a baby island tries to play, but it's just a little....warped.

So there's a creepy doll!
It's tumbling down the stairs.
It's got a squeaky voice
That cries out, "MA-ma!"
And there's another one,
She's holding out her arms
'Cause she just wants a hug...
And maybe....your soul.

No one screams 'cause there's no one there
Just another doll with a smashed-in face,
And a centipede crawls out the door, no wait, that's a ten-legged baby.
There's a clown with a crooked smile
And a patchwork girl with a torn-out eye
And a toddler without a head and a blank-faced black-haired lady.

They make their way through the spruce and pine to the wet and rocky beach,
Where the moonlight shines on their tangled hair and their tiny porcelain teeth...

And there's a creepy doll!
It's diving off the shore!
It's got a squeaky voice
That gurgles, "MA-ma!"
And there's another one,
She's floating upside down
With seaweed on her face
Don't breathe, can't drown....

And while all Fandom sleeps, the dolls are swimming through the night
Except the ones that levitate (holy crap, that's just not right)
The dolls are in the water and the dolls are in the air,
The dolls are on the causeway squeezing bracken from their hair and they are giggling...

Now they creep through the silent town
As the teal deer flee and the gremlins frown
At the doll with the bloody mouth and the fangs that could make them jealous.
Toward the school where the children nap
Crawls a baby girl with a moldy hat,
And a poppet so full of pins it's clear someone was...overzealous.

The white-haired brides glide slowly down the narrow twisty lanes,
And a dead-eyed schoolboy peers inside to see if Luke's sells brains...

Here come the creepy dolls!
They want to play with you!
They're really not so bad
Unless they're hungry.
And sure, some carry knives,
But others mean no harm.
It's really not their fault
That they're so freaky...

Here come the creepy dolls,
Who might just dance with you
Or they might only move
When you're not watching.
Here come the creepy dolls
Who want your blood or love --
Guess you'll find out which one
When they follow you hooome...

Ah, the first day of rehearsals at the Boards. It was just the sort of thing to make Jono show up looking... if not happy then at least slightly less grumpy than usual, with a stack of scripts in his arms complete with sheet music. It might have been the therapeutic smashing of creepy dolls with a crowbar that had him in such a good mood. Or maybe it was the sheet music that did it for him. Even Sweet Transvestite could be soothing if it was played well, damn it.

Really, if you wanted happy, you need look no further than Troy: the fluster and panic of a first rehearsal was generally guaranteed to have a smile fixed on his face. "This is going to be awesome," he said to Jono, as an aside. Turning to the gathered performers, he added, "Hey, everyone, thanks for making it out! I hope you're all excited for this -- I know we are!"

"Before we get started, I have the scripts here," Jonothon's excited face looked much the same as his 'Yes, I certainly do appear to be awake today' face. "There's enough for each of you to take one, and you can feel free to make as many notes in the margins or mark them up however you see fit. They're yours to keep. Today, we're going to just be acquainting ourselves with the script and the music of the show, since I know a good many of you showed up for auditions without even the faintest idea what in the world you were getting yourselves into."

Which had amused Jonothon to no end, really, but they were in a show with underwear and dry humping, and he was going to have to break it to them sooner or later, after all.

Underwear, dry humping, incest, cannibalism... Really, what didn't the show have? "At some point," Troy continued, "I was thinking we could watch the movie all together, but I want to get rehearsals underway first so that we're not locked into that as the 'right way' to do things. Theater's not about that. The movie's iconic, yeah, but with a live show like this, what you all bring to the roles is just as important as how someone may have played it once before."

"So, everybody grab a script," Jono said, "and take a seat. We'll do a read-through of the script, pausing for the musical numbers, which we'll just play on CD for this one rehearsal so that you get a feel for the vocals. If any of you have any concerns or questions about any of this, feel free to ask Troy or myself during the read-through, or to grab one of us after rehearsal. Shall we begin?"

[Open rehearsal! Script (with audience participation cues just 'cause) is here. Cast list is here. Yaaaaaaaay!]

Tara didn't see any creepy dolls on her way into work, but her blissful ignorance came to a halt when she spotted a crowded shelf of new merchandise.

She didn't remember placing an order for bedraggled old dolls, and they didn't seem like the kind of thing a magic shop needed to have on hand, but ... maybe one of the other employees had ordered them? Maybe dolls were used in some magical tradition she didn't know?

The thing was, the dolls were giving off a really strong don't-touch-me vibe, and Tara was inclined to obey such feelings. She retreated to the counter to handle some paperwork and tried to ignore the feeling she was being watched.

Elphaba was going to take her punishment with dignity. She might not have wanted to work this job, she might not have wanted to even really be in the shop again. But given what would happen if she and Britta did not do so, well, she found this the better alternative.

She spent much of her time staring at the Squishy machine. What sort of tik-tok witchery was that thing, any way?

Today's Squishy Flavors: Green Apple, Sour Grapes, Red.

Turtle & Canary was open!

Yeah, so, Kenzi had the butane lighter out again. And she was sitting on top of the bar. She wasn't getting down until it was time to leave.

The thing was... the zombies? Thought the dolls were cute. So they were playing for them.

She'd be over here. Randomly setting off the lighter.

Sov felt a little melancholy when opening Stark Industries for the last time, and ended up finding a small box full of things they intended to buy and take home with them. They had received a letter the previous day from their mother, informing them that they were now needed at home (why?) and that it was time to return to Gethen.

So, should anyone stop by, thye would probably find Sov rummaging through the shelves.
