Well, yesterday had been a big day full of catching up with loved ones, but today there were real activities planned! Although it had drizzled a bit the night before, by now the grass was dry and ready to be socialized on, almost as if Fandom knew that Student Council hadn't thought through a Plan B in case of rain and had decided to make things easier on them. The island was thoughtful that way. Now it was sunny and warm, and probably the best weather they'd had in a few weeks. You're welcome, parents.

Even if any of the guests had somehow been deliberately shielded from missed the signs about the field day in the park today, it was pretty easy to spot, what with all the brightly colored flags marking different stations, the big stage with a karaoke machine set up, the probably-larger-than-necessary buckets of station-specific equipment like balls and water balloons, and, of course, the picnic benches and food tables for anyone who just wanted to watch. Everything was perfect, assuming that whoever had commandeered the karaoke machine wasn't completely awful, so hopefully all the families would have a good time!

When she didn't see anyone who was clearly from SHIELD earlier, Jessica became a little concerned. So she figured there could be worse things to do than hang out on a rooftop late at night and see what happened. After all, she still had word that someone would be there. She just didn't know who. But, she reasoned, what better way to get their attention than being someplace odd in a flashy costume?

Of course, this meant some waiting around.

Which wasn't boring at all. Until Yakko ran across the roof holding a bag that seemed to be struggling. It was probably Jessica's duty to take care of that but it seemed like a bad idea. And anyway, it sounded like she was just about to have the last company she would have expected.

[OOC: For myself, on SP. Yakko and Yakko's guest also played by me - modded with permission.

If there's a super late sweep, everything is broadcastable, but please use the Spider names. Thanks!]

And once again on Parents' Weekend, Topher had no visitors, and he was happy about it. Seriously. Who needed their family where they lived? That was like... kindergarten. He'd matured beyond that, thank you.

So, for reasons that were not at all related to the parents he didn't especially want to hang out with, Topher was spending his work shift... working. On the code for Broca II, the robot wonder dog. The whole process was a bit loud, because for the most part he was programming barking sounds, so he wouldn't be surprised if people could hear it from outside. But that was completely unintentional. It wasn't that he wanted people to come by and ask what he was doing. Of course not.

It was just that the barking sounds might be getting louder as people passed by. Because of coincidence. And that was all.

Really.

Summer didn't usually come into the shop on Saturdays but she was making an exception today, seeing as it was Parents' Weekend.

She checked over the display, noting Elle's creativity at work. She smiled and took down some of the boards, bringing them behind the counter with her. They looked like they could use a good cleaning. She took out some wax and, after laying a towel down so the boards wouldn't get scratched, she starting buffing them.

Well. Derek and Ben hadn't yet given up on their plan to do as much "ironic" karaoke on the island as possible, so that was what they were doing at April's bar shift. Singing. While the zombies played. It was horrifying and Ben kept wanting April to take their picture.

So April was drinking, like the responsible bartender she was. She really wished Derek and Ben had stayed home and maybe Orin had come instead, but if she was going to deal with their antics, she was going to need to be drunk for it.

That meant she'd probably be making out with them by the end of the night, but in the meantime the alcohol was helping.

So it turned out that along with the giant freezer full of ingredients, Vincent had also kept a giant closet full of decorations. Which is how the Cafe ended up decked out in bunting and balloons, with a nice banner saying "Welcome guests!"

The cook kept muttering about how decorating wasn't in his job description (what did he look like, a pastry chef?). Priestly told him he should embrace the chance to diversify and handed him a staple gun.

In retrospect, giving the cook a weapon might have been a mistake.

Bo had been here. For about 30 seconds.

Just long enough to see the towering feminine figure in leather leaning on the bar, get grinned and waved at, and spin around on her heel to stalk out the door, "Very fucking funny, Tiny," echoing back over her shoulder.

Tiny, for the record, had been in the Men's Room.

Now he was watching the door, and a slightly confused Bitsy was covering the bar, wondering what her brother had done to piss Bo off.

The last trip being a memorable exception, she always did seem to have the worst timing when it came to visiting family.

[Gonna be ouuuut; you get Tiny and his non-fake sister!]

So, the games or whatever had been kind of fun, even if Olive had refused to play. But after having dinner with her parents and Rhiannon, Rhi had kindly declared that this was 'really effing boring' and asked if there wasn't anything to do. And since Olive didn't want to take her parents to the bar -- hahahaha no -- she said they could go to the park.

And Rhiannon being Rhiannon, that had somehow been translated as 'have a party in the park.' Olive had been coerced into bringing her speakers and iPod down out of her room and setting them up on a picnic table, and Rhiannon had bought a metric ton of food.

"Are you sure I can't find us some beer?" Rhiannon asked.

"We're right here," said Rosemary, glancing up from her phone.

"Sorry, Mrs. P."

Olive, meanwhile, was very busy sending out a mass text, to go along with the handwavy posters Rhi had slapped up. Less posters, more lined paper that said, 'COME TO THE PARK, WE HAVE FREE FOOD AND MUSIC.'

[impromptu park party is open!]
