Kitty was having a bleh day at work. Last week had been the worst time she'd has as staff at Xavier's, she'd just gotten back from dealing with it, and for the first time since she rejoined she wasn't looking forward to seeing what was waiting for her when she got there tomorrow after working late tonight.

So today she was entirely just playing at work, which right now meant dropping Skittles into half a glass of vodka just to see if and when the dye would turn it colors. Also, then at some point there'd be vodka-infused Skittles. No stress in this activity.

Nathan had been spending a lot of time in the preserve lately. As the weather warmed, it was easier to lose hours just running through the trees, tracking teal deer, and just sitting in the quiet. It reminded him of home and he'd been thinking of home a lot lately.

But, this morning, the preserve was making him frown. He spent a lot of time here so he was able to notice trees that looked thinner than previously and the abundance of dead leaves and pine needles on the ground. He wasn't smart but he didn't think those went along with changing from one season to the next.

He'd spent several hours yesterday looking at trees that were shedding their bark. Maybe this place was different? Whatever it was, it was worrying. Nathan was trying not to think about that now having just come back to a spot in the preserve where he'd been sleeping. He sat down and leaned back against a tree trunk, pulling some food onto his lap.

Overhead, a few leaves fell off branches and tumbled lazily to the ground. Nathan frowned again. This couldn't be right.

[Open if you're in the preserve!]

Someone had left a Rubik's Cube on the counter in the lobby.

Éponine, being her innately curious self, had picked it up as soon as she spotted it and had been fiddling with it ever since . . . with very little success. Every time she had one face almost solved, there was no way she could get the last piece aligned with the others without messing everything else up.

How that thing hadn't gone crashing through the front window of the post office and into the street yet was anyone's guess, but there was a good chance it could happen before the end of the day.

[OOC: OCD-free, open, subject to SP until I get home from work!]
