Fandom Post Office, September 22 (Tuesday)

There was a tumbleweed in the post office lobby this morning; it had just rolled in on a little gust of wind, then slowed to a halt a few feet inside the door.

Éponine stared at it.

It didn't stare back, luckily.

She kept looking at it, expectantly, tapping her fingertips on the countertop in an exaggerated show of impatience, but it just kept sitting there. This wasn't really a surprise, and she hadn't really been hoping for results, but having a pointless staring contest with a tumbleweed seemed like as good a way to pass the time as anything.

Today was a slow mail day.

Finally, Éponine shrugged, went over to pick up the tumbleweed, and pulled out the envelope it had been carrying. "How d'you like that, someone actually used this rate. Silly of them, really, it takes weeks and even if it's got tracking numbers following them only makes people mad . . ."

See, slow mail day.

Somehow a subscription to Cosmo had started showing up at the store. York blamed Delta for it happening though the AI put up quite an argument against it.

Either way, he wasn't about to throw them away without reading them. Which was why he was learning about ten new ways to please his man right now.

Roof of the Kwik Stop, Tuesday Afternoon

Weird girl with rocket-inline skates incident notwithstanding, the Kwik Stop roof had turned out to be a pretty nice place to unwind and have a smoke last week. Enough so that Dante decided to come back there after classes this week, just to smoke and dangle his legs over the edge and watch the normal blue-and-white of this sky drifting past. It wasn't quite a here-have-some-privacy-yourself apology to Anders, so much, but he had spared the guy a thought before leaving.

"Hey, you," he said. "Decided to come back after all, huh?"

The cat mewed and set his ass down next to Dante, looking up at him expectantly. Dante reached out and obligingly scritched it behind the ears.

"Well, at least you don't beat around the bush," he said. He reached into his pocket with his other hand and produced some lunch meat he'd stolen from the third floor common room that morning. "Here. You look famished."

The stray practically inhaled the meat. He had to watch with a smile, like-- "Glad you're happy." In response, the cat stretched out and ran his claws over Dante's pants. He was fine with that. They could stand to get a little more ripped, anyway.

Maria was behind the counter with a notebook as the stereo played behind her. She was working on a new song that focused on her guitar -- but she kept getting distracted with jotting down notes about Student Council and upcoming Parents Weekend in a couple of weeks.

Okay, a week and a half, but still.

Groovy Tunes was open and Maria was happy to help!

Kenzi was poking bagels and cream cheese through the ceiling vent. At the look one of the newer busboys gave her, she also added some lox, glaring at him.

"It's Yom Kippur, it's traditional."

"To feed the vent?"

"Shush. Stir the soup!"
