The weather in the park was cool, crisp and pleasant. Not too hot and not too cold. If Goldilocks was attending the school she would have called it "just right." The traditional decorated tent had all been set up, complete with various tables, an expansive buffet which included a grill and barbecued items, and the all important shadowy corners.

And a moderate amount of glitter here and there.

There was also a very shiny banner that read:

Welcome to Parents' Weekend 2016

Welcome parents and friends. Watch out for the glitter. That stuff gets everywhere.

Another day, another... strange human ritual that seemed to be bringing more people to the island. These ones were supposedly 'parents,' if what she'd heard about this weekend was to be trusted, and it was one of those things that apparently had something to do with the human notion of family.

And so, it didn't concern Peridot in the least. She decided to ignore the day and whatever having visiting parents entailed, and set about working on another attempt to build a functional Homeworld communicator out of Earth components. She was on the right track, she was sure, but she was starting to suspect that half the reason it hadn't worked properly was because she needed some manner of signal tower. Perhaps she could borrow the one from the radio station while the squirrels were--

She stopped and looked up quickly at the window. She could have sworn that she'd seen somebody tall with decidedly square-shaped hair walking by just then. But it had to be her imagination. Had to be.

She was going to just tell herself that and get back to work. And maybe she'd be able to continue doing so the next three times it happened, too. Including that one time when the tall somebody with the square hair stopped and leaned forward, looking calmly through the window for a few minutes before moving on.

Yeah.

Yep.

Peter had an actual employee starting today, which meant he supposed he should get ready. Which mostly meant making sure that his notes and accounting system made sense to anybody sane, and not just him.

Assuming Khadgar was sane, but he had seemed fairly level-headed.

Apart from that, there were flowers and plants set out in a nice display that he hoped made the autumn day seem a bit brighter.

He had no idea about extra people on the island, but it wasn't as though his father was going to show up, anyway. Emperor Constantine had been dead a few centuries.

Didi had seen Mocktail on cable the night before, so she was working on improving her fancy Tom Cruise bartending skills. It seemed like they might be useful to entertain anybody
who came in today to get away form their guests.

She gave it up after a half-full bottle of pumpkin spice vodka flew out of her hand and hit Tino in the forehead.

Dante had hoped to get to sleep in that morning. Wasn't like he had any reason to be at any of the PW functions, besides being on StuCo, and nobody was gonna cry if he opened up the store half an hour late. Instead, he'd spent the night plagued by nightmares. Eventually, he'd gotten up, gone up to the roof, and smoked a single everything-sucks-it-doesn't-count cigarette. (It'd tasted like shit.)

So he arrived at Groovy Tunes half an hour early, instead. And found a rose waiting on the counter for him, a blue one, like the one that had randomly shown up at his door at Valentine's. "Weird," he muttered. Checked in the corner for the blue guys. "Is this your handiwork? Not funny."

Not even smacking them with the rose got them to 'fess up, though. Instead Dante was left to hang out behind the desk, studying the blue petals, trying to pretend as hard as possible that it wasn't tickling at the back of his memory in the worst, impossible-to-reach kind of way. He didn't even bother to change the music on the stereo until the afternoon.

"Thank you to those of you who elected to come this evening," Hannibal said to them once everybody had arrived who was going to. "Given the arrival of off-island guests, I would hate to penalize anybody who is absent or distracted today, and so instead of a lecture and cooking, I give you a movie."

He smiled. "And I'll be serving the same dishes as in the feast, if you would like to partake."

[OOC: Whoops! My bad. Here, have a movie day!]

He was late to work but, then, who cared? Certainly not he. Rufus swanned in hours later than he should have but the store was open now and wasn't that the important part?

Dark Nation tagged along, of course, and when Rufus permitted it went off to roam the store for dust bunnies.

Rufus checked the stock, made the orders for the week after next, and then, rather than grab a book and read, he leaned against the counter thoughtfully.

Plotting a hostile takeover of… well, he certainly couldn't call it a treasure by any stretch of the imagination. But it could be good practice. Rufus believed in getting things right the first time around. There was no need for sloppiness. (Usually.)

It was a much better use of his time than anything to do with the whole Parents' Weekend thing. What utter nonsense that was.

Parker was avoiding all that stuff about the students' parents being here this weekend. Partly because what little she knew about most of her former students was that she didn't want to meet their parents unless she got to kick them, and it was all just oogy.

Meanwhile, there was comfort food. And comfort ice cream.
