So what if it was snowing like crazy out there? Sparkle was Canadian, and if there was one thing life in Canada taught you, it was that if you could get to the place and there was power, you did the thing. You went to the place.

And so he'd bundled up and trudged his way to the Pick Your Poison, kind of marvelling in the crunch of the snow underfoot as he went, smiling a little at the weird sort of peace there was in a snowy morning with nobody around, even if 'snow' was more like 'blizzard' and even if that blizzard came with a burning cold that made his eyes water and his nose drip.

At least it was warmer at the shop. And when he got there he frowned to find that the door was already unlocked, and blinked to find a large assortment of LUSH products just... sitting on the counter. Had the bath and beauty product fairies visited in the dark of night? Sure, he'd roll with that. Pricing and putting the body washes and bubble bars out on the shelves would give him something to do on a quiet morning.

... Uh... Right up until the power went out and he was left sitting in the dark.

Well. This was dumb.

[OOC: If I have to go to work in blizzards so does Sparkle, dammit. Open until the power goes out, and then he's gonna bail.]

Snow days weren't exactly a thing where Fjord was from. Oh, there were days when a ship would remain docked in port, when the waves were too tracherous or a looming storm on the horizon came with the promise of a shipwreck. But if that storm happened to hit while you were at sea, you worked. You worked damn hard, or you died.

Most people didn't conveniently wash up on shore alive after the shipwreck, after all.

And so Fjord was showing up at the forge for his shift as per usual, his hair and shoulders white with snow, bare shoulder more than a little chilly as he finally started reconsidering the benefits of going to shop at that Demon Marcus place for a proper winter coat after all. Apparently when this place finally decided to get cold, it went all-in.

Besides, the fire was hot. He'd be just as comfortable putting in a full day of work here as he would be anywhere.

The plan, after Rufus had given him the ticket, was to leave immediately. But as the day had continued on yesterday, Zack realized it wasn't quite so simple. He needed to tie up loose ends, needed to pick up his sword from Amaya whenever it was finished and needed to make sure the shelter was in good hands - damn Tseng for arranging for him to inherit a business that made him responsible for so many lives. He'd known exactly what he was doing.

And then the storm had hit, and Zack found himself making a damn beeline for the Furnado, to check the supplies, make sure the generators were running, fill up water bottles, and - crap! - rescue the chickens from the roof, a task that was easier said than done.

Okay. So he had a ticket to get home. Apparently right now, the rest was a bit of a work in progress.

At least the cold didn't bother him. Thanks for that much, ShinRa.

[OOC: And open! I'm done for now!]
spectre_alenko: Kaidan looking oh so very serious (Default)

Kaidan had spent the wee small hours of the morning teaching Hernando how to properly use a Yooper Scooper and standard snow shovel. Then there'd been an impromptu snowball fight. After, he hiked back to the CIC, clearing the sidewalks on both sides of the street between the two buildings as he went. Had shovels, was travelling.

Snow was cleared from the walk and from the back stairs. Then he went up and proactively shoveled and salted the roof, especially around the shuttle's docking legs and door. "You going to be ok up here alone EDI?" he asked.

"I am a shuttle, Kaidan," EDI responded, amused, "The weather doesn't bother me."

That wasn't what he'd meant. "Well, I'm only a comm call away," he assured her.

"Shuttle, Kaidan," she reminded him, still amused.

He patted the shuttle door anyway before heading inside to do battle with IKEA furniture.

Unfolding the directions, he frowned at them. "Good god, what even is this?"

It was going to be a day.

It was snowing hard, already accumulating in drifts along the sidewalks and stairs as Eliot made his way into the diner. Unsurprisingly, most of his staff had called out -- Eliot himself was only really here to check things over and make sure nothing would go too haywire when the power inevitably went out. The kitchen staff, though, was chatting away over a big pot of hot cocoa, talking about the alot of snow they'd seen walk by not long before Eliot arrived.

"Glad to see y'all made it here safe," he said. "It's really coming down out there."

"I like the snow," the cook said.

"This is a nice day out on the steppes," said the dishwasher.

"I live in dry storage," said the busboy.

"What?" Eliot asked, frowning.

"What?" asked the busboy. "I didn't -- I'm from Minnesota. I like snow. Yeah, those things. Totally why I'm here."

"Uh huh." Eliot shook his head, making a mental note to check the busboy's address on file and possibly give the kid a raise if he was having a money issue and wasn't just being weird. "Right, well. We're probably not going to get a lot of customers today, so anytime y'all want to head home, just let me know. I'm going to make sure the pipes don't freeze."

The snow had gone from steady to verging on ridiculous to white-out conditions since noon. There was at least a foot of snow on the ground, with drifts up to almost twice that against buildings. The wind started to howl, and the combination of that and the snow accumulation meant that power all around the island started flickering, and then went out completely just before 4 o'clock.

Fireplaces immediately sprung to life in the common rooms and in the main room of the community center, but it was going to get pretty dark and pretty cold pretty fast.

It was snowing!

Had been snowing for a while, actually. A lot. Like, a lot a lot. Which Bobby was pretty pumped about.

He was less excited about the power being out, because that meant no TV or video games. Or central heating, but the cold had never bothered him anyway.

So what was a teenager without access to entertainment that required electricity to do but go outside and find other ways to keep from moping about his roommate going home entertain himself?

Like using the massive amounts of snow to create a bunch of ice golems. Which he then made dance, of course.

[ooc: mostly establishy, but also could be open! these are NOT your unfriendly snow monsters, those will be arriving later. this is just ~coiiiiiiincidence~. yeah, nu, i copied you. shhh, bobby is totally a disney princess TOO.]
