Covent Garden Flowers; Tuesday [09/22].
Tuesday, September 22nd, 2020 06:03 amEven though she knew it was impossible (it should be impossible) for her mother to show up, the realization that Parents Weekend was coming up had crept into Astrid that afternoon and made her feel tense. Like somehow, Ingrid would know about the letters, that she'd have astral projected herself into the room like she always claimed to be able to do while she was spreading the mix of ash and glitter and paint across her side of the wall, covering the stylized faces of all her friends, and that was sort of how thoughts of Ingrid, Ingrid's presence, Ingrid's influence seemed to feel to her right then, like a dark, viscous fluid coating her insides, spreading like a disease.
She tried to channel that energy into actual work that day, wrangling flowers into positions and places to make for an appealing arrangement, but they didn't seem to want to cooperate and none of them were very good. She just kept getting distracted by what ifs. What if she managed to get some sort of release for the weekend? What if she convinced the people in charge out there that she had a right to see her daughter? What if she got that fire in her belly, and Astrid knew better than anyone that once that fire was in Ingrid's belly, there was no stopping her until it burned and consumed everything that was in the way...
She started focusing on using more roses, because even though she struggled today, especially with the thorns, they (and their thorns) seemed to be the only thing that felt like it was kind of working.
Covent Garden is open!
