After work...

Shane decides to swing by the Perk for a cup of cocoa to take home with her. The evening is quiet and fairly cool as walks over to the park. She takes a seat on the bench and shrugs out of her denim jacket, leaving her in the white 'Zombie Weekend' t-shirt Angelus had brought over to her, which she'd changed into for work.

She takes a sip of her cocoa and winces slightly at the temperature. Leaning over, she nestles the cup in the grass for a bit so that it can cool and pulls out her cigarettes. She lights one and stretches her long legs out, crossing them at the ankles in front of her as she takes a long drag of her cigarette. She's a little tired - it had been surprisingly busy at the diner after having been very slow since zombie weekend - but doesn't feel like going home, just yet. She lets her head loll back on her shoulders, smoke slowly slipping from between her lips.

At random places throughout the town, on churchs not affiliated with the students nor Fandom High the . following signs greet early morning walkers, joggers and coffeeaddicts )

Remember guys, if nonaffiliated churchs support Phoebe for President, shouldn't you too?

Red was busy in his shop. New inventory, rearranging, stocking, inking, piercing...it was all going on, which was good. He liked a booming business because it meant he could keep his doors open.

Fandom Town wasn't such a bad place and he hoped to stay settled here for some time.

The door open to let in the fresh air, the cubs left upstairs in his flat for the moment, Red enjoyed the cool breeze that blew through as he sat at the counter and read his Flash magazine.

Marty opens the door and finds that the store has been mysteriously tidied up and that instead of tea and cookies, there's Tim Horton's Coffee and muffins available by the overstuffed chairs.

Marty sits down and starts going through the inventory records looking for something in particular.

As Michael changes the sign from "closed" to "open," he swaps out one of the two signs in the front window, and adds a third. They read:

"Homecoming Special: free pack of condoms with purchase over $10."

"Now available, in case of unexpected 'guests': cricket bats ($20 each -- bargain priced!) and assorted ammunition."

"Fandom Townie meet-and-greet party, Friday night
Feel free to stop by while the kids are busy at Homecoming,
come meet your fellow community business owners.
Food and drink will be served."

****

Ben checks out the new signage, and cocks his head at the last one. "Interesting idea."

Michael nods. "I figured while the kids were busy elsewhere, we could get a chance to meet some of the other Townies while we have the down time."

Ben sidles up to Michael. "Will there be dancing?"

Michael laughs. "If you want, I can pull out the CD player. We can fit the Homecoming 80's theme and put on some Madonna."

"Hmm..." Ben takes Michael in his arms as if to dance, whirls him around and dips him. "I was thinking more of a ballroom thing."

Michael shakes his head to recover from a slight dizzy spell as Ben pulls him out of the dip position. "I'm thinking...no. But after a few beers I might change my mind." He grins

The two re-enter the store; Michael sits down behind the counter while Ben returns to his writing.

Pre-Show Countdown

Logan headed straight home after classes so he'd be around for the pre-debate open mike preparations and food delivery. He posted a sign ) on the bar.

After a quick survey of the layout, he decided that the courtyard would be the best place for the speakers, and the food could go on the the pool deck. Maybe the dining room table would work as a stage, if he could rope someone into moving it.

He really should've thought to hire someone to rearrange this place.

A large plastic bucket by the pool was filled with ice and sodas, and tables were set up on the pool deck for the sandwiches.

[ooc: The "open mike" thread will be posted later, but if you want to gather early or help move furniture, come on over.]

She rushes in carrying grocery bags loaded with food and wine. She heads straight to the kitchen so she can start preparing dinner. She pulls out pans and bowls, and opens one of the bottles of wine, placing the other two in the fridge. She begins to hum a jazz tune under her breath, swaying her hips as she cooks.

Cooking with her guests in mind, she hopes that salmon is something Shane and Kate will enjoy...as well as Ten.

She pours herself a glass of wine, sipping it while she cooks. Her text goes off a couple times, once for Shane and Kate to cancel, again to cancel the cancelation. They'll be here soon...

The old man was a fleece and Loz walked away with more money than he should have. Repairing the beaten up lawnmower was something he could have done in his sleep but making a big production out of it ensured the geezer was grateful…and generous.

Kadaj grabbed the money out of Loz’s hands to count it before he handed it back. Leaning against the fountain base, the fountain fast becoming their favorite place to hang while in town, he watched the people go by.

Coming to join his brothers, Yazoo held a flyer he had pulled down off a telephone pole, his face scrunched into a momentary frown before it evened out. “Hey, Kadaj, what is…” he paused. “…homecoming?

Loz snatched the paper out of Yazoo’s hands to read it and what followed was a paper snatching contest between the two before Yazoo kicked out to nail Loz in the thigh hard and scoot away with his prize.

Victory was short lived as Kadaj grabbed it from Yazoo and gave him a look before reading it. “Don’t know,” he said after a moment and handed it back to Yazoo. “But it’s tomorrow.”

“Do you think they would let us come?” Loz asked, lying back on the seating at the water’s edge.

Yazoo read the flyer again. “I don’t know…they are selling tickets.”

“We’d be welcome?” Kadaj asked with a smirk.

Loz laughed, his voice echoing through the park.

Lilah stared out the window at the idyllic looking town, appreciating the placid appearance that disguised a rotting core. After spending several days observing the town (and hiding from zombies), she'd determined that Fandom had a great deal of unrealized potential to be higher on the evil radar than it was. She'd taken the transfer with the understanding that she would generate new business, but had been called on the carpet by the Senior Partners for her inability to produce results.

Not that she was sure what else they could do to her--she was already dead, and they owned her soul until the end of eternity.

She pouted as she unlocked the door of the office for the day. She'd been summoned to L.A. for a few days and had been bound to the building, unable to shop for shoes. That had stung. Bastards.

The combination of Logan's refridgerator post-it and Chloe's strong hints about needing to do an all nighter on the newspaper, made Jake pack her new shiny pjs into her backpack. It had been bought along with a mass of other girly things on the shopping trip to end all shopping trips. Jake's attempt to protest had been countered with "well, since you're already sleeping with him..." which had shut her up.

Scowling at the memory, Jake nearly left the candy bags behind. They probably did deserve the candy though, she admitted to herself, and stuffed one into her backpack along with her notebooks, sketchbook and bio book, and grabbed the other one in her hand.

She made a detour to the Efferton Manor. She hung the candy bag onto the iron gate, glaring suspciously around all the while in case the vegetation was trying to ambush her. The bag was marked with a note going: "To Snake-Hair - Thanks. JGjr". Having done this, she continued on towards the school.

The Perkolator

Inara sighs as she settles back into a chair at the Perkolator, giving [livejournal.com profile] coffeesmith a wave and a smile.

The man with the bizarre painting has gone on his confused way, and a small group of people have gathered around the young woman at the other end of the coffee shop.

As she waits for her hot chocolate to come to her and for Beka to arrive, she flips through the various fashion magazines that the coffee shop has acquired. They appear well-thumbed by the young women of the school in preparation for Homecoming. No surprise there.

Maybe this will be a slow night for once.
